Ok so I got my 360 hooked up to my router, but it seems as though my router usses "strict" or aggressive NAT. Is there any way that I can change this so that it uses "open" NAT? Or do I just need to get another router? And if so, which router (cheap G) would you reccomend for open NAT?
There is no such thing as a more open nat or less aggressive, NAT is NAT. The easiset thing you could do is put the 360 in a DMZ zone, most routers support this. This would basically open up all ports to your 360, so it's not the safest thing to do but I don't think with an xbox you have much to worry about.
It just doesn't have any restrictions on what goes to that box where as the other pc's traffic is filtered and only certain ports are allowed through. You need to connect to your routers admin page (usually 192.168.1.1) and there should be an option for DMZ.
Ok the only thing that I found with DMZ was "Default DMZ Server". I just set that to the IP address of the XBox Right? Thats what I did, I hope it is correct. The reason Im doing this is because I can connect with some people on Xbox live but one certain friend I cannot, and on the Xbox forums they said it was a NAT issue, or basically our routers were filtering eachother out. I hope this DMZ thing works.
That's all you need to do. Now if you can connect to some people but not your friend then that would indicate an issue on his side not yours.
well he can connect to some people too. just not me, it's the same for both of us. After I did that DMZ thing like you said, I went into the Xbox network menu and it checks all my network connections in Xbox. When it gets to NAT, it still says Strict. I guess this means that there is some kinda of restriction on it.....Im a little lost here.
it's a netgear WGR614 V5 I don't know if there is any difference but I hear a lot of people talk about D-Link like thats the best thing to get. Any Input on that?
If I got a second cable modem, then split the coaxial cable into the two modems, could I use one for my PC network and hook the other modem to my Xbox?
No. If you had two modems then you would need to have another account with your isp. The dmz didn't work?
no the dmz didn't work, But I finally found something that did work. I had to update the firmware on my router, now everything is hunky-dory. Thanks for everything you guys, I aprechiate all the help.
