Do any other 360 users connect to a router in which they need to open ports to properly connect to live?

I seem to be having a networking issue I can't quite pinpoint. At the time, the 360 will connect just fine to the Live service, no problems at all. Other times it attempts to connect for about 20 seconds and says it can't and that I should run a network test. I do so and the results come back fine, still can't connect to live though. Other times when I run the test, it'll come back with DNS errors, and the next test it won't, then the following test it will.

I already tried swapping ethernet cables, same issue. Auto Sign-in is enabled. I asked a co-worker with a 360 and he told me I had to open ports as per this Microsoft KB article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908884/en-us

Anyone else experience this issue or have had to open ports?

    *Edit*

Already flashed firmware and the router is the WRT54G v.3

NM, it's resolved. That fixed it.
