Well I've held myself back forever, but I don't know if I can do it anymore. I really want to play an MMORPG. I have Guild Wars but I don't know if I can get back into it again, and WoW looks so good. But I have a few questions.

1.Would it be better to buy it from the store than ebay? It seems most of the ebay auctions have used CD keys.

2.What is up with "Guest Passes"? How do they work, and does anyone have one they can share with me :D

3.Is there a free trial or is that what the Guest Pass is?

4.Are the classes as lame as they sound?

Probably from a store... I dont know if i'd like a used key.

With the guest pass you need to install the game still, so basically you'd need a friend in town with one (unless the have a download up now) It lasts for like 5 days or something and has slightly limited access.

No free trial i know of.

WoW is probably one of the best games I've ever played. It's completely immersive. I had to stop myself from playing though, I found myself spending too much time in it.

What is the incentive to being a healer? Do you get experience from healing people? I was under the impression that the only person in a group to get experience is the first person to hit the creature. If it's like that, what does that leave the healers with?

Creatures have a threat list. Anyone who is on that list gets experience when it is killed. There are many ways to get onto the threat list. Having an aura on that gives a party member a buff will get you on that list. There are many ways to move up and down in the threat list as well. Striking them obviously, but healing will do that as well. You can get buffs that will reduce your threat when healing/attacking. The person at the top of the threat list is not necessarily the person who the creature will attack although it is the most common. Whoever is the first to generate threat on a creature will get attacked. For the creature to switch to a new target, the new target must have 10% more threat than the previous target.

I'm not quite certain how it determines how much experience a person gets. If you are grouped it is going to be less than if you are solo. The higher the level you are compared to your group members, the more of the total pool of experience you take. This prevents power leveling of lower players to an extent.

One incentive to being a healer is that most people hate being healers. Therefore you will be in the minority and it will be much easier to get groups/raids and equipment.

Why would you want to reduce you're threat? So you don't get killed if you are weak or what?

As a priest, its not good to have things attacking you =) That is better left to the melee types. Also, usually you want one person to act as the tank. That is, the person who all the creatures are attacking. This makes it easier for the healers because they only have to focus on one person. If a rogue or hunter manages to pull aggro, then they have to worry about healing 2 people which complicates things. If the players are good this type of thing usually doesn't happen but for crummy players Paladins can put a threat reducing buff on them.

I have also been thinking about trying this game. The addiction is what holds me back. Perhaps if someone tossed me a guest pass I could see what the big deal is.

priest is easiest class to group with... Unfortunately im a rogue.... Which is tough at times.

and you'll get the same amount of experience no matter where you are on the threat list.

Rogues are highly sought after on Eonar. DPS dealers. One step below a mage, I'd say.

    Basically if you're lookin for ease of lvling;

    1. Hunter
    2. Warrior/Rogue
    3. Mage/Warlock

Hunters are a cool class tbh, if you do decide to lvl one, make sure you're speccing Beast Mastery for PVE. Thie autoshoot gets no glancing dmg either, which is insane. Basically your normal bow dmg hits a red or skull con for the same as a green con.

Rogues; make sure you're going sword combat spec, atleast until 60. I play one as my main,

Warlock; spec 30/31 Affliction then Destruction for bolt dps - with 30 affliction you can get Ruin, which pwns - though during lvling, you crit so little its pointless - start with Affliction line first.

Warrior; furyfuryfuryfury, op'd cunts tbh :p

Mage - Havent played one not gona try and give advice for it, except to say that most raid guilds will want an Ice Block puller @ 60.

I'm horde so if you get stuck for places to lvl shout me, I know pretty much the whole routine to 60, esp for a rogue.

    Just dont make a paladin.

I see "full on rogues" all the time on daggerspine.. :-\

    and...

Actually any rouge spec is fine and it doesnt really matter. Combat spec just does the most dps the quickest. I was dagger till 30, but i use maces now.

I had to give up WoW. I was three and a half levels away from my mount, my younger brother just gave me 100 gold, and I just can't justify playing it anymore. *SIGH*

Jackalope, if you're interested I have my WOW account and you can buy it for like 30 dollars if you would like. I have some chars on there, but nothing great. But, you're more than welcome to use them. They are geared pretty nice for the levels.

PM if you want to talk about this more :)
