Up and at it, boys. It's up on PirateBay
gah i cant wait till this is released and i hope i got an i7 setup ready for it.
Wait, does the betta background come with it?
i thought that was ingenious of them to have a betta background considering its the first beta.
does anyone know minimum/recommended requirements for this beta?
I'm downloading it now. See how it runs in a VM.
VMWare sees it as Vista and VMWare Tools installs without issue. It works just fine for me. I'm really enjoying the UI so far. It's much easier to navigate, for me at least.
Wow, I'm impressed with the Advanced Firewall:
I'm sure there may be another way to get to it but Vista/Server08 has the same firewall if you type wf.msc from the command prompt.
I stumbled across that little tidbit while reading about sbs 08
Hmm, I was just thinking about that. I was on Vista Ult. 64 for a while but dropped it due to performance issues.
Either way, the OS is very impressive and greatly improves on Vista. It runs very well in a VM environment too, so I imagine it'll run perfect as a regular bootable OS.
Yes, but does it blend??
Ya I've heard this beta could easily be used as a main OS considering how polished and quick it is. I downloaded it but haven't installed it yet. I wanted to use Vista but with my "slow" specs, I didn't want to see the performance hit. But from what I read, Windows 7 is quite a bit faster than Vista and in some cases faster than XP. If that's the case, I may use Windows 7.
For you guys that have it installed, how much memory does it use idle? And what is the cpu usage idle?
I wonder if this could convince me to switch from Ubuntu. Seems quite nice
so this will be the only beta, then onto RC releases!
cant wait to start testing the rc releases. this os is going to be blazing by gold.
dekstop looks like kde a bit
I like it so far. It seems more like vista sp2 but w/o winfs I'm not going to complain.
So, is this polished enough to install over my Vista copy via Boot Camp?
Could you take more screen shots of the start menu and my computer?
even though i know you can switch back to the classic vista startbar, i still think they shouldve gone a different route with the windows 7 one.
me personally, i like alot of screen real estate and seeing a thick taskbar kinda irks me
Depends on how often you use it. I hate using Beta/RC releases for full time use but so far it's pretty stable.
Enable auto-hide taskbar.
So far the only bugs I found are with the installer. On a blank disk you still get the option to upgrade. If you choose it it gives you an error and dumps you back to the welcome screen. Then if you choose install again it locked up on me.
Other than that it seems pretty solid.
well i installed it and played with it.
unfortunately nvidia never released vista drivers for nforce2 motherboards so windows 7 was incompatible when it came to sound and lan.
but i tethered with my phone a bit.
i gotta say, its pretty neat and there are soooo sooo many options! so many opportunities for tweaking its crazy
Can one of you give us a screenshot tour of it? I'm intrigued now!
Torx, post A SS plz.
since ive skipped out on vista and i dont know what features have migrated into windows 7 from vista, dont slam me if i discover something thats already in vista. but heres a few things i find interesting so far.
