Could be, they're great computers but they're not perfect. Remember, they're made from a lot of off the shelf components that are used in other PCs, they're just usually the more reliable brands.

If it's really bothering you, you could Ebay or Craig's it and turn around and buy one of the new systems. Mac's hold their value really well so you're likely to lose very little in the deal.

Oh and I forgot. My computer sometimes has trouble playing HQ video. It is a P4 3.0E w/ 2 gigs of ram and over two terabytes of storage. A 3.0E is slow by today's standards.

to be honest i think the 98se was the best windows ever and as i do agree xp is a little more stable i would just put 98 back on your pc and call it a day.

Man, am I the only one who doesn't miss Windows 9x at all? I mean seriously, I would have to reinstall the OS twice a year just to keep things running well. After six months of use I'd lose something sick like 15-20% performance in games, etc. For me XP is the gold standard, hands down.

Gold standard for Windows, MSP. Vista is pretty slick but I still think OS X is leading OS. But then again I'm an unapologetic mac zealot. :p

    Udpdate:

I use to think Windows98se was good, but man Windows 2000 is amazing. I bought Windows 2000 for 15bucks, and man this OS plays older games and new games with ease. It seems like XP was too demanding, and my computer specs was holding me back. But with Windows 2000, there is no lag in games, no slowdown, games are running amazing with the 81.98/BFG 6200 OC PCI card. I played COD4 at 1280x1024 high settings, No AA , 18-35fps.

They said that older games have trouble on win2k, but thats not true. Unreal GOLD, ST3C High Texture Pack for the first time, i get well over 100fps, near 150. I am using the BFG 6200 OC for this rig , but i plan to buy the BFG 8400GS 512MB PCI card as a upgrade.

    Update 2:

I am buying a Dell 2.4ghz, Intel Pentum Dual Core as my secondary computer in 2 weeks. And i will be buying this video card for it:
    PCI 8600GT GDDD3 128BIT 256MB card.
I am sticking with PCI cards.

Your not going to get anywhere with an old PCI interface. Any gaming computer Today should have atleast a PCIe 1.0 interface graphics card. I've got the 8600 geforce myself, but mine will blow yours out of the water since It is a PCIe interface.

COD 4 High Settings, No AA, 19-30fps, PCI 6200 OC Edition PCI. I couldn't play COD4 really at all using XP, bottlenecking, but with windows 2000, the game runs very smooth.

But i am not going to get anywhere with what?
You guys need to know your video cards, seriously. PCI is less powerful then AGP or PCIE, so what. They get the job done, so stop being ignorant and enjoy what you have and let others enjoy what they want to use. Damn, everyone in the world dont have to have everything someone else have.

You guys and other people on other computer forum act like little children, whine and whine about what someone is using lol. Grow up.

I don't think you understand. Putting a new gfx gpu on a card with a pcie ==> pci bridge is like putting a brand new 700hp engine in a pinto and using the existing transmission. You have a huge bottle neck and can NEVER use the full power of the engine/gpu. This is fact, if you have pcie slots and pci slots on the same motherboard, just use the pcie slot. If you can not grasp this concept I fear for your future as a functioning human being.

Please, just take a step back and think about it.

If your new computer supports pci-express then you really should just buy a pci-express card. you'll be spending around the same amount of money for the card. plus you will be able to easily upgrade your card when the price goes down on the current new cards.

Honestly, Using a PCI graphics card will have no advantage to you. Even Windows 2000 will support a pci express card.

    I'm lost.

I understand that you've used PCI video cards in the past with great success, the problem comes in that PCIe is much better. If you have the option to buy a PCIe of the same type of card, please do it. 19-30 fps may be playable, but wouldn't you prefer 55-80? Honestly it makes gaming a lot less strenuous on your eyes, and you would be amazed at how big of a difference it is.

Even going from 19-30 to 35-45 would be a massive upgrade in pure playability. I just ask you to please think about this. You're spending a good chunk of money on a computer, don't you want the best for every penny you spend?

To go back on the car metaphor used above. Would you pay $200,000 for a 1989 Geo metro? No? Well then why spend all that money on a new system and then put a geo in the garage. Just get the porsche and enjoy yourself!

*edit* Oh and if you don't take our advice, then you should just leave the forum because there is absolutely no point in you being here if you don't follow our tech advice when it comes to something like this. When it's a completely 100% unanimous vote that you're doing something wrong, listen to us, or get the fuck out.
