Need to reload my Lenovo Ideapad Y50, going to put Windows 7 on the larger of my 2 SSDs in it, but was THINKING of dual booting with Windows 10 Technical Preview.

Anyone played around with Win10 yet?

I'm running it as my default OS. Build 9926 is rock solid. The boot time is incredible. Do it.

W8.1-64 for me until Win10 is finalized and then ill be moving over to it immediately. I tried some of the newest builds and it seems like a mighty fine OS.

I'll skip 8.X and pull the trigger on 10.

They realize people are using less and less of their products and know if they want to stay relevant they need to give away windows now. But best believe it is going to be an extremely watered down version of windows probably without any type of "administrator" privileges and you will need to buy an upgraded copy in order to customize and do things that you wish to do.

I'd expect a trick before I'd expect a legitimate freebee from micro$oft. If anything it's full of tracking that they can glean a lot
of profitable info from. Another angle they are into is the Office software subscriptions and it's reliance on the cloud which they are heavily promoting.
The business model they have is heavily invested in the cloud even with all the inherent security and NSA domestic spying issues associated with it.
IMHO: when a company uses the word "free" ......you are the money making product.

I have not been really following Windows 10 much but if I were a betting man, I'd say they were going to:

    1) Launch a Windows version for users.
**** Much like Amazon has done with bundling different services and giving "Prime" as an option to offer many of those services at a discount if you subscribe to the SERVICE.
You get the OS for free but they are shifting revenue to the services they offer much like Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc. If there is to be a different "level designation" of Win10 I expect it to be reflective of the permissions of services you subscribe for not the differnt levels of OS's we are used to. EG: Win10 basic: no subsriptions to any services but the ability to purchase any at any time at a nominal fee. Win10 Media: Subsriptions to media databases (movies, music, books etc) wish a lower annual renewal fee.
Something like that. MS is probably understanding that the OS itself has not very much value rather than the services they offer through the OS. I think everything is going this way. Partnerships and collaborations and offering services via subscriptions.

    2) Launch Administrator based versions to tie already well established advanced Windows network management functionality (group policy) to these new user based clients.

    3) Full on streamlined server versions. Slim and fast.

That's exactly what I foresee too.
