yea so im about to get a nib psp from a freind for $60 plus some game, is this a good price? No memory stick so imma have to pick one up while im out.
Sandisk or Sony? 1GB or 2GB? I wanna be able to store one backup game and the rest of the space dedicated to emus and misc apps.

whats all this pandoras battery stuff?
i have no clue what version the psp is, i just know its the original fat model that came out years ago (thats when he got it, he doesnt have the internet or any other games so im suspecting its never been updated)

im hoping its 1.5 or less.

now, my next question.. version 1.5 is best for homebrew, but will i lose out on all the features of the official firmware by sony?? like built in web browser and all that cool stuff? Or will these hack FW's include that?

i read gog's quick guide but some of it i cant comprehend

EDIT: also is there a bootloader type app that i can use to boot up 1.5 firmware and/or official firmware for when i want to do "official" things??

Get a 4Gb or higher for the memory card, you will thank me later.

All firmwares can be hacked with a pandora batter. If you don't have access to a pandora battery then you will need a firmware that is hackable.

The best place for info is the forums on psp-hacks.com

I'll give you more info when I get home.

i browsed around and found a soldering hack to fat and slim batteries to make them "pandora"??? is this viable?

i DO NOT wanna buy any 3rd party hardware just to run some emus..

geez that's a good deal. I got one of the special edition starwars PSP's for $200. It was hacked already and came with a 1GB and a 2GB card and some other misc accessories. Definitely get a 4GB card as a game alone takes up to 2GB of space.

Games can range from anything from 70MB to around 1.3GB. Usually it's the good games that are larger. Manhunt 2, MGS, Silent Hill Origins, that kinda thing. Although Worms 2 is only 200MB and that's a fucking class game.

I had a 2GB stick when I had mine and that was plenty for a game or 2, SNES and Mega Drive emus and a few mp3s. I was constantly swapping and changing around though.

Find out from your buddy what firmware the PSP is on then I can point you in the right direction to downgrade it.

To answer your questions - CFW is exactly the same as official firmware apart from the fact it plays ISOs and homebrew. The latest Sony firmware is 3.90 and the latest CFW is 3.90M33 (M33 being the name of the hacking team). It has every single feature of the official firmware, so by hacking your PSP you're not missing out on a single thing.

I don't recommend opening up your battery to hardmod it into Pandora mode. If you have a friend who already has a custom PSP then you can use his to make a Pandora battery.

nope. they range depending on the game. I have some games as low as 500mb or so but as high as like 1.8gb.

You have no AC adapter? How do you plan to ever charge it? The USB is a transfer cable, not a power cable.

Oh, and you NEED the power cable, or at least a full charge. If the PSP dies updating you brick the console.

yea, i just removed the memory card and powered off after i realized it.
i'll go back and get the ac adapter tommorrow.. i figured the usb charges and transfers..

i'll be able to just plug the ac adapter in, put the card back in and continue to goto the pictures and open the overflow.tif?? right, without any problems?

wootskies!!! i went ahead and built a homemade charger out of a usb cable and old ass sony cd player adapter or something.. it fit perfectly so i smiled and hacked it off.

got the red screen, and now about to restart to see if im 1.50

    wootskies x2!!
    1.50 is alive!

now what should i avoid doing to not update to an official sony FW?
i can use wireless internet and play official new games right?

yikes, out of mem card space, thanks ivwshane! gotta wait till tommorrow unless i wanna take a late night trip to walmart :/

EDIT: i ran kxploitpatcher before copying over the 1.50 to mem card, then finding out i didnt have any space.

how do i undo the kxploitpatcher? or is this something temporary done in ram? i can just turn off the psp and it'll return to normal or return to whatever was patched?? Im kinda worried that when i get a bigger card, and redo the 3.52 install i wont know if that kxploitpatcher is still resident or not or if i need to redo it

    FUUUUUUUCCCKKK!!

i bought a new 4gig card, copied all the files, DIDNT run kxploit, and proceeded to run the m33creator, i havent ran m33update yet.

    what should i do??
its now saying this application doesnt apply to this firmware when i try to run kxploit AFTER i did the m33creator.

how the fuck do i start all over and reflash 1.5 so i can redo the process?? fuck, im not touching anything.

edit, okay i updated to 3.40oe-a and its supposed to have kxploit built in.. but i dont know if i should stick to this or update to 3.90 or whatever the latest is.. and how do i go about doing that

EDIT #65: YAYAAYY!!!! im at 3.90m33-2! Fuck YEA!! Gahdammn this had to be the most annoying, rediculous, mod ive ever had to do. You gotta downgrade, upgrade, upgrade again if you wanna install a later update.. upgrade again, and again!! all the while crossing your fingers your shit isnt corrupt or get bricked. Thanks everyone! i learned alot in the past day. Now off to try out some emus.

The thing I hate the most is that all the guides are just pure shit. No one has a straight guide on how to get to the latest firmware.

tell me about it.. i had to flip through several types, and online videos just to make sure i knew what i was doing. none seem to be very organized. the information is there, but its just not organized to my taste

but i got nester running and tiddling around on the browser.. i never wanna do that again!

    i followed this guide.
step by step-1.50 to 3.90m33 guide - PSPMod.com - Sony PSP Mod & Hacks Forums

then i used the link ivwshane gave me to update to 3.90m33 and -2

Whats cool about the m33 firmware is you no longer have to go through complicated steps to update the firmware you just run the system update like you would for official updates and voila youve got the latest cfw!

you mean i dont have to download and copy any files to the psp?

i can just run the stock update app, and it'll retrieve from the internet?

    nice, damn that iiiisss nice..

im just a little confused now on where to put apps at.. in /GAME or /GAME150 etc, etc. Some apps ive read around have problems with certain firmware or something? Like the g/gbc emu i put in /Game... when i exit it shuts the psp off, weird, dunno if thats a compatibility issue with 3.90 or what... I know where to put my backup isos, thats pretty self explanitory, lol..

how do you manipulate your psp into for what you do?

this is proving to be the best $60 ive spent so far with my tax return
