I was playing CS:S today and all of a sudden, my computer started making these beeps ate me. BEEP BEEP, BEEP. So I shut down CS and the beeping stopped. This has happened to me before but I just shrugged it off. Now I am concerned. What could be causeing My computer to Beep?

so basically your saying that I am getting too hot? Is that the only thing that would make it beep like that? What can I do to solve this problem?

    Without knowing your specs,
I'm not certain, but when my proc gets hot ie: fan not working, too much dust on HS, it beeps repeatedly as a warning. Yours depends on what mobo/bios you have. Determine what bios your mobo is running, check out beep codes at http://bioscentral.com/ and see if that helps determine the cause of the particular beeps you're hearing. Open up tour box and check to see how clean your heatsinks are, blow them and fans out with canned air. Make sure all your fans are circulating air throughout your case. Use a temp monitoring software to determine how hot your proc gets under heavy load and/or run burn-in program to see if you can withstand extended heavy load.

it tells you what your processor and case temperatues are.

run speed fan, play a game, and check the cpu temp after the game. anything over 60C and you should open your case and clean all the dust out

The program differenciates the various fans/temps monitored.

    What proccessor?
My stock HSF on P4 lga550 always sounded the alarm on the speedfan program. It registered below the threshhold for RPM in the program, so it sounded the alarm. I had to set the program to 'ignore' the reading. My stock intel POS HSF was only registering 1400RPM and the threshold was 1600. When I put the ArticCool Freezer7 HSF on, my RPMs went up to 2900 and temps went down 15 degrees on average.

I also had a problem with the Winfox monitoring proggy that came with my video card. The alarm threshold was set too low and sounded the alarm often. When I set it where it was supposed to be, no more alarm.

My system was overheating playing WoW in crowded areas. Upgraded to 2-120mm fans in my case, problem solved.

Until I bought my 7800GS. It only beeps once in a blue moon, but still...it's probably processor temp. Check all your fans, how good is your cooling inside your case...etc..

Allright, I have a P4 3.2 Ghz 800FSB HT Running here. I have taken some pictures. I have the Proc fan as well as 2 80mm case fans running, ventilation in case is good, but my computer is in a bit of a tight spot (see picture). What do you guys think, is my computer in too tight of an area? I don't think it is, but I dunno....It's backed up pretty close to the wall, and has a dresser about 6" to the left of it.

Also I have included a shot of SpeedFan, maybe you can tell me what temp my CPU is? Here ya go....

lol, as a matter of fact it was nuke, but it wasn't the bomb if that's what your implying. It was comming from my actual computer case. That's funny though.

It's temp2... Here's what you need to do... For starters try to fix the problem straight out. Remove the side of your pc case, and place a fan blowing air in that crack between the PC and the dresser. You should immediatly see the CPU temp drop 5C. If so, pull the case out from it's position 2-3 feet, placing the fan to point directly at the cpu. This should drop it another 5C. If both of these 2 things happen, then it is a cooling problem. 65 is pretty hot fricken.
How to fix: Remove the CPU cooler from the unit. Make sure it is on evenly when you place it back on. When it's OFF check to make sure you didnt forget to remove anything from the bottem of the CPU, ie a small plastic protector. Also, make sure there isnt TOO much CPU goop. If you would like, take pictures of the cpu when the heatsink is removed, and take pictures of the heatsink, maybe we can see a problem.
    2) Buy a new heatsink. Stock pentium heatsinks are not known to be the best. Purchasing a new 30 dollar heatsink may actually be the correct action of all else fails.

I think I have some arctic silver 5 around here somewhere....Should I try to just clean off the stock goop, and apply some of that, or does the Arctic silver not even help that much???

I would like some recomendations on a fan/heatsink combo for a socket 478. If a new fan/heatsink will bring my temps downs considerably then I'll just do that.

1 more thing....do I need to use some special cleaning solution to clean the goop off of the processor and heatsink?

just use a tissue and wipe it clean, if you really wanna u can use rubbing alchol... but it's not nessesary, i still think you should post pictures ... take a picture of the cpu and heatsink after you apply articsilver stuff

Stock Intel HSF's suck balls at cooling. Before I changed mine to an artic cooler I was getting 65-75 degrees. They're loud and don't cool that good. Now my proc runs around 50-55, 60 under heavy, heavy loads.

Ok I have not changed anything but Im running at between 48 and 55 degrees. Are these good temps? I am still planning on changing my fan/heatsink, but what temp should be my goal?

That's definately better. Mine runs about that, P4 550 LGA775 (prescott). My old 478 runs the temps you're quoting so your temp readings indicate it's within normal parameters. What did you do to drop your temps 10 degrees? Prescotts normally run real hot compared to other procs. Stock, mine ran 60 idle, and up to 85 under heavy, heavy load. Needless to say, my alarm was going off alot. Them things need as much ventilation as you can get into your case. I've added three case fans and an aftermarket good cooler and brought them temps down to 40 idle, and 55-60 heavy load.

I really didn't do anything, It has gotten rainy here, and a little colder, maybe that's the reason for the temp drop. I don't know really. Anyway, What should I get as far as a fan/heatsink go?
