As you probably know, I make many many sigs. Looking in my folder, I have 128 right now that I have used (plus a few I did not save for some reason) and a few waiting to be used.

Most of the time, I come up with an interesting line myself, find a quote that sparks my interest, have an opinion to express and add what I feel is a fitting image to go with it. Sometimes it is just an image. Sometimes they are very personal and relate in some way to my life. Some were life changing events, others were just for fun. While I do this mostly for myself, I guess as some form of self expression, I also do it to hopefully get someone to read it and think about it. It may be a point or opinion I hold that I would like others to agree with or at least be exposed to, or maybe just something to get people thinking about it and come up with their own conclusions.

I can recall a few times I've gotten PMs asking me what a certian one is about, or others just saying they like it (for some reason).

So I am wondering, is it working? Do you look at the images, and words in my signatures? Do you think about what I have said or implied? What it means? Do you relate it to your own life in some way? Or do you just scroll by it and use it as another way besides the avatar to identify a post as mine?

Read them, yes. Understand them completely... not always.

Your current one is pretty obvious, though.

They usually invoke a little thought, at least.

The current one, is a quote from the book Under the Banner of Heaven : A Story of Violent Faith by the way.

I'll give you a sneak peek at the next one:

I guess to explain it, the image is in the 'brain' of Hal, the computer from 2001: A Space Odyssey, with the main character entering it in order to shut it down.

If you have not seen the movie, check it out. Anyways the idea of that part, was that Hal had made a mistake, that 'he' was unable to admit to as 'he' thought himself to be flawless. When the people onboard underestood the situation, to save their own lives they tried to shut Hal down (well, the higher order thinking at least). Now Hal, being a thinking 'being' had the same urge as the people do, and that was self preservation, to live and carry out the mission. So like in war, both sides want to, or need to kill the other to live themselves.

Hal had flawed, illustrating no system is perfect, and acted in the 'human' way in order to save its own life.

The text is just to outright say no system is perfect. The image is just an example of a flawed system.

NoseMaster, many of them are intentionally vague. Either because it is a way for me to express something about myself that does not share more than I want to, or to get someone thinking about it means. The thing is, when someone analyzes anothers work, what they do is look at it through their own lense. Thus by trying to understand something in my sig, you are analyzing something about yourself.

    groovy new one.

(btw, I had understood that the reason HAL was having problems was because he ahd to tell a lie. (based on what his creator wanted him to do and teh true goal of the mission) this caused a rift in him {bound by loyalty to the humans, but also bound by his programming} this had casued him to go a little loony, and he saw the only way to self preserve (h9imslef as wella sthe mission at hand) was to kill folks off.

regardless, no system is perfect,a dn i cannot put nearly the effort and thinkin as you do in your sigs.

for sure I read them. gonna call ditto on Nosemaster's post...

(for me at least)the explanation of your next one with HAL was completely unessesary. I just read the caption and it was immediately apparent to what all the red was. I like it!

edit: almost forgot to mention how much I like your current one. I like it a LOT. not to kiss your ass or anything (you did say it's a quote from a book anyway...), but I really have to agree with the sentiment behind it(or at least my interpretation of that sentiment, seems pretty obvious this time)

I just wanted to know if my efforts are going to waste :p

James, I have made a huge image with all of them on it, but that takes a long time, so screw that.

Here they all are, 128 so far, ~1.8MB http://home.comcast.net/~ninefivezero/ninefivezero_sigs.zip

Some of them, mostly the old ones, are pretty ugly in my opinion, and I think I used a quote twice as well as the same image twice... eh. Take a look if you want. I guess I can explain some of them if anyone wants me to.
