This, and I would like to add: that sometimes when you're in a quiet setting GG, you can't just "whip out" your phone and make a call. But you may have an important message to say, so you text them.

    Multi-grain all the way!!!

    +1 I lol'd

Email, internet and the ability to use a program called PocketTOTAL are invaluable to me with my smartphone. I'm on the road for half the week and being able to update clients, accept orders and do half of my reports from my phone makes it so I don't have to work 10-12 hour days.

For example, yesterday I had to look up county tax records for a property that was improperly listed. It prevented me from having to drive through a rickety trailer park in the middle of nowhere which was plastered with NO TRESPASSING signs. Instead I just had to drive through a muddy old logging trail which bypassed the shotgun wielding family members who lived along the private road leading to a house which was just foreclosed on. Rednecks aren't too friendly with people working for the bank that foreclosed on their families home.

    See:

    #1 - I hate texting.
#2 - Unless the camera phone has a 3x zoom, 6+mp, and a decent flash, it won't replace my digi cam.
#3 - Unless it has 40+ GB of storage for MP3s, it wont replace my iPod.
#4 - Unless the GPS usage is free, I ain't using it. Screw Verizon and paying an extra $10/month for it's crappy GPS.
#4 - I can only think of like 4 times when having the internet at all times would have truly been helpful, otherwise it's just a novelty.
    #5 - Unless it's under $50 a month, I ain't paying for it.

Eh, that's my take on fancy phones.

I have a 30gb iPhone 3gs. I hate texting so hardly every do and mostly it's sending poop emoticons to my husband or my daughter but we cut her WAY BACK ON THE GODDAMN TEXTING. I do use the facebook app because 98% of my family keep up with each other that way. Mostly now I use an app that tracks calorie intake for P90X. And to watch TV shows at work. Because I'm all about the productivity.

I've gotten all three iPhone generations shortly after they came out. Before that I had the HTC 8525 and before that a Sidekick.

When they first came out I got it because OMG NEW TOY. It lost it's appeal pretty fast but then jailbreaking sarted which made it fun again with all sorts of apps and now the app store continues that. Also ease if use, any idiot can figure out how to do anything on this phone, and video quality (watching not video recording) are why I stick with it.

Edited to add: what the hell is with the funky formatting when posting from the phone?!

I love my iphone. I don't understand the ATT hate. Is it an issue of poor 3G performance? I guess it's a good thing I live in a major city, I'm always topped off at the highest reception with full 3G coverage. I stream, remote PC, browse very fast. Seriously, the best phone I've had. I appreciate the easy UI and simplicity. It kinda takes away all the bullshit and tinkering that I dont have time for.

PS - LogMeIn app is the best app, hands down. $30 but the best investment so far. Remoting in your PC at a red light is pretty badass.

I use the T-Mobile G1, the first android phone. It's slow as hell, which is frustrating. I even have it rooted with the cyanogenmod rom but it's still slow. can't wait until my contract is up (still have like a year and a half...) so I can get a fast one. I LOVE android but I'm such a power user that it can't handle what I use it for.

I use this phone more for everything. Hell, I use it over using a laptop for most things. I use it to text, email, browse the internet, social networking, listen to music, turn by turn navigation (FREE because it's google), as a remote control for my HTPC, to remote into my computer at home, as a camera (sucks though), as a phone and more. quite frankly, I don't see why anyone WOULDN'T want a smartphone.

I text a lot more than I'm ever on the phone. Over text, you can just bs back and forth all day. I can text all day during work and still work. I can't really sit on the phone all day. You can text in situations where you are unable to be on the phone. I see nothing wrong with people checking their phones after a movie or whatnot. Who cares, who is it really hurting? I do it, i check to see if anybody texted me. Now texting during a date would be kinda a bad idea.

iphones are hella nice but Apple really is turning into an evil company. it's pretty ridiculous that they are suing everybody now suddenly because they don't want competition. and don't get me started on the crazy system of which apps they will allow or deny. I couldn't go at&t anyways. It's awful around here. drops calls all the time, cuts in and out. the one company i've had since the beginning has been t-mobile (voicestream before that) and i don't think i've ever had a dropped call unless I was leaving a service area (which is a lot larger than people think). at&t will cut in and out and drop calls in the middle of the city with full bars.

I just got a My Touch 3G with Droid. The best phone I've ever owned. Love the fact that it's so customizable.

My take on cell services: " are com companies going overtime to find ways to get people to part with thier dollars?"

you are correct but so does every business out there. I'm all for "stickin it to the man" but paying the fees for my smartphone has made my life so much easier and convenient that it is worth it to me. cancelling all of it because they are trying to nickel and dime me actually makes MY life not as easy. could I technically live without it? sure, we could all technically live without all technology but it sure does make things easier.

overpriced cell phone plans. why the f would i pay $90+? Sounds like a rip off to me, I can get a plan thats ten times better and just as good w/ spring for $62.50 a month. Not worth it to me to pay all that money to a greedy ass company and shitty customer service like att

You should drop the money for a Nexus One. Best Android phone out there. Completely love it. Everything you want to do, you can do and then some. All the speed issues with the G1 are gone. Believe me, specially since you use android for so many things, just look at it as an investment in less frustration and more time. It is also a beautiful phone. No contract either, you could buy it out right unlocked, then just run your contract out or switch it to the no contract plan (which is less per month and you should be able to without breaking contract, just pay $30) and enjoy your Nexus One.

I have a company discount on my plan, my bills hovers around $75 - oh well, I can't complain. I've never had an issue with AT&T. I don't take sides for cell phone companies, there will always be an "I hate (provider) and I love (provider)" argument.

I do want one but that's just a lot of money. I've spent a lot of money recently on stuff. Need to cool off for a few months. I'm on a family plan anyways so I'm not sure how buying the Nexus One works. Probably just have to buy it full retail. I dunno, we'll see. Here is a question for you though, does it play videos well? That's one thing that sucks on the G1. I don't even try. It's so slow, it can barely play music haha. If it plays videos, that would be great. The lack of physical keyboard kinda sucks too since I text a lot. Hopefully something else comes out soon that's as fast as the nexus one but has the physical keyboard.

It plays videos flawlessly. If it is in the right format, basically what an ipod/iphone can play, even if its 720p or more it should be able to play it. Though I down convert to closer to the native res. The g1 did fine for me with videos though, but again I converted those manually.

I have found that not having a keyboard isn't a big problem. There are alternative keyboards that are pretty nice. swype is one option, another I am trying the alpha of is swiftkeys or something. It tries to predict what you will say next, as you use it more, it gets more accurate. It works pretty well, but have to get used to using it since it takes a different way of typing. Anyways, the N1 is worth it, the extra cost of buying the phone outright is saved in monthly costs. Not only that you can shed your contract. I pay $65 a month for 500 minutes and unlimited data/text. I don't talk a lot on the phone, but it isn't much more to get unlimited everything.

out of curiosity, what format did you down convert to play on the G1? these days, all I have is 720p video so I'll have to do mass down converting. Since I'm on a family plan with my friend and her family, I just pay her $55 a month for unlimited data, text, pics, and enough minutes (i rarely talk on the phone).
