It's best to do so from a clean install, however, due to the many things one accumulates that might interfere with proper SP2 operation. Go here to get the SP2 redist, so you don't have to connect to the internet before SP2 is installed. back up all your data and SP2 to a non-boot partition (the advantage to having many partitions on one's HDD, then format the boot partition and reinstall Windows XP, then install SP2, then install your motherboard drivers (preferably you have the latest drivers on the same partition as your data and sp2) and network drivers (if you have a separate network card), then connect to the internet and install all the Windows Updates to date. Firing Squad has a nice little feature on this here. There are many SP2 tweaks, such as going into Security Center and telling it to SHUT UP with the stupid pop-upwarnings already. You'll find a nice XP tweak guide here, as well. Good luck.
if you use bluetooth, install the drivers for that before sp2, MS bluetooth drivers are cr*p! I spent many hours working that out!
yeah do it already. going online without a firewall on sp1, you've got about 20 minutes before you'll be infected with worms and like an hour before your machine turns zombie.
I upgraded to SP2 with my XP Pro VLE. No problems so far. Although, I think it might be causing my EQ2 to crash every once in awhile.
Slow to change i geuss... I formatted and then did all the security updates and installed SP2... running fine... just godda get rid of these reminders n such
The majority of people don't need SP2.. Read the release notes from MS. For every update. Why download/install shit when 90% isn't necessary.
... because in addition to the "features" one doesn't really need, there are a TON of exploit fixes that SP1a isn't going to get.
they should have 2 flavours of every service pack maybe. One with all the bloat and one that just plugs up the holes.
havnt had any problems with sp2. I think this is the longest I have actually gone without a format with this sp2. Computer runs liks its been a fresh install all the time. For all those people that bash microsoft, I think they really got there shit together. I have never had a virus with windows XP. I love this OS.
