So how many ubuntu users do we have on the boards now? Who is planning to upgrade to Gutsy when it comes out Thursday? I have been running the RC for a few days now and so far nothing but <3.

I actually have a partition on my Core 2 system waiting for this release. I'll try the Live CD first, but I'll install it. I would have installed it before now but the Live CD from previous releases didn't work with my Nvidia 8800. And I have been a little busy to fool with it.

I checked out the Ubuntu RC in a VM. I do like how they keep it simple and efficient all around. I've been a user of Arch. Gonna go back to Gentoo if Arch breaks my system one more time.

I took Ubuntu off my partition. I'm too addicted to the glitz and bloatedness of vista.

Using 6.06 LTS on my file server. I'll wait for the next LTS release before I upgrade.

So is the RC the final release coming out on Thursday? If so I'll download it now.

Looks like Gutsy Gibbon will have some 3D effects built in, but I have yet to see any pics or animations:

EDIT: Well shit, it IS Beryl. Compiz.org :: Home/Screenshots - Compiz

Ya Beryl and Compiz joined forces a few months ago and go by the name of Compiz Fusion now.

Release day! Downloading now, but I had to try 6-7 mirrors before it would begin.

It took me a while to find a server, but I am downloading now. My speeds are between 114KB and 200KB. Not too bad, should be done in about an hour.

I booted the Live CD into a few clients - a Latitude D610, D520, and my old Sempron 2400 desktop. Looks pretty nice but none of them were punchy enough to enable Compiz Fusion by default. I'll boot it in my Core 2 Duo / Nvidia 8800 machine when I get home.

This upgrade sure is taking a long time, several hours. Probably would've been faster for me to just do a new install instead of doing the live upgrade. But, I'm sure the servers are bogged down since it is release day. I'll post some thoughts/impressions when I get it up and running.

I'm getting it from one of the torrents. Going really, really fast.
