I like lists, I like video games, and I've sure come to like it here with you guys. I never see a whole lot of action in this part of the boards, so I was wondering... what're your top five most favourite games you've ever played. You know the kind that you finish, go "omfgbestgameever" and then play it again.

    01. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
    02. BioShock
    03. Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented
    04. Silent Hill 3
    05. Killer7

With honourable mentions for God of War 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

    Please, discuss.

Wow lasthonestlook, I've never played any of those. How long have you been playing games? :bear:

Hmm, top 5.. I know we've done this before, but off the top of my head...
    1) World of Warcraft (the whole list could stop here, if you played, you loved)
    2) Half-Life... loved the multiplayer (+Counter-Strike, only counts as 1 dammit)
    3) Chronotrigger
    4) Final Fantasy III (FF7 definitely right up there with it)
    5) Gran Turismo 2 ... or 3... Motor City Online... hmm, can I choose 10 instead?
Honorable mention: GTA: San Andreas. In some ways it's the best game created to date but has a few dozen significant flaws. I am sure GTA4 is good but it hasn't sucked me in yet.

    2) Morrowind
    3) Other
    4) Other
    5) Other

Honestly, I've been so tied up with those games over the last 5-6 years it's hard to pick a 3rd, 4th, or 5th place. I expect to add Bioshock to that list, I have it here but haven't installed it yet.

EDIT: I waver on #1 versus #2, I love them both so much. It could go either way.

Five may not be enough... in no particular order.
    - Starcraft. Looking forward to SC2
    - Command and Conquer 2, and 3. 2 more fun.
    - Supreme commander. Just share number of units to control.
    - GRAW
    - GOW

That was a really impressive game for its day. I remember the first time I played it was on my 51" HDTV with the Xbox 360 and surround sound. The graphics/sound was amazing. We were all pretty toasted though. ;)

This is a more of a nostalgic list than anything. I don't really game much anymore, so consider these my all-time favorites.

    1. Suikoden II
    2. Half Life
    3. Starcraft
    4. Twisted Metal 2
    5. Age of Empires: Rise of Rome (or AoE:II)

    Super Metroid was amazing.

I never played Suikoden II but the first one was very very good. Breath of Fire's another cool series (the early ones were awesome) that never got enough attention because it was in FF's shadow.

And yes Twisted Metal was great, totally ground breaking for its day.
And yes AOE was a great series!

Yeah Dan, the original Suikoden is a fantastic game as well! It's just a shame that it doesn't get the publicity it deserves. Oh well, a cult-following will have to do I suppose.

I'm not sure if he still posts here, but Nosemaster has a pretty dope Suikoden tattoo.

    Tough Question....

    1) Ultima Online
    2) Daggerfall
    3) Halflife Series
    4) Morrowind (I'd like to play it again and actually complete the story, i normally end up just going on a killing spree in all those foo-foo magic user cities in the east though)
    5) Super Mario Bros.

This was a pretty hard task but I'm gonna stick wit the rule of 5. It's hard to rank them so I'd say they're somewhat interchangeable in place.

    1. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
    2. Half-Life (introduced me to fps's and CS)
    3. GTA: Vice City
    4. Super Mario Advanced 4; basically SMBs 3 ported to the DS (part of the fun was the hunt Bear and I had to partake in to get this and the other SMA games)
    5. Tron 2.0 (I think a very under appreciated game; I loved the gameplay and the graphics)

I've only been playing for about the last three years. I've never played like any of the games any of you guys have listed, with the exception of the original MGS and Silent Hill. But I guess since -everyone- says Half Life is like the greatest thing they've ever seen, I should get off my ass and get the Orange Box like everyone I know has been telling me to..

The original Half Life was amazing and revolutionary at the time. Still a great game, but for someone to go back and play it now they might not see what the big deal was.

Oh come on now. I didn't miss ALL the good ones!

I've got a copy of Half Life 2 for the PS2. Suppose I should give that a shot, as I never really did beyond the controls tutorial. Is it one I can play stand alone or should I hunt down the first game and play it first?

Okay not all the good ones, but the progression to this point was really exciting. I'm just bitter because I think most modern games lack the soul of the last generation (I blame ultra huge budgets and Hollywood style production teams, but they're not all bad. ;)) and especially the ones before it.

What was going on in the prime time of SNES and PS1 was the best age of gaming (IMO), but I'm heavily biased toward old school and kind of gave up on the world of gaming for a bit.

I never played HL2 really. I know it was good and all that, but I couldn't really get into it.

Then again, I could never really get into a FPS on a console. I usually prefer the KB/mouse for those. Some were good... GRAW wasn't bad, and I guess Halo was made for it.

I have -never- played a game on a PC. I've never had a machine good and fast enough to do them any justice. In fact, I've never really enjoyed FPS games until more recently. So I'm sure that's contributed to the fact that I've missed many games. I'm with you though, on many games lacking any real spirit. The games that're really, really good now are few and far between. I play a lot of them and move through them really quickly and I very rarely come across one that is totally amazing in every way.

(Don't you dare tell her you'll ban me. I'll be real sad.)

PC gaming has seen better days. It's still the best way to play shooters and RTS (real time strategy) games by far, but the games just don't seem to be as fun as they were. Call it nostalgia, call it whatever, to me, they just aren't.

Also, I used to think HL2 was pure garbage, but then I played it again on The Orange Box, and it really wasn't so bad. Good, but not by any means GOTY.

    My five:

1 Starcraft (PC) played for over a decade now
2 Warcraft III (PC) played for five years
3 Call of Duty series, especially CoD4 (everything, but I played 360)
4 Any early/mid 90s 2D shooter (Wolf 3d, Doom, Rise of the Triad, Duke 3d, no way I could pick)
    5 Secret of Mana (SNES)

    Honorable Mention:
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
    Gears of War

Note: I had to rank the two at the top because I played (PLAY) them so freaking much. If I had to pick independent of that, I'd say it's between Secret and LoZ for top spots. I tried to keep what I'm playing now off the list, because I just haven't gotten tired of them yet. I'll see about adding Gears 2 in a year or two.

    More honorable Mention:
Oblivion (about 300+ hours in one or two characters)
Morrowind (200-300 hours in one character)
Super Metroid (how the Christ did I forget that, I religiously go back and re-beat that every few years)
