Awesome. Glad to hear you're being treated well. You hear so many horror stories about westerners in Africa, the racism there, etc. At some point I might ask more detailed questions about the financial side of your trip, if you don't mind. Total cost, that sorta thing.
Very cool man. I've steered some of my friends towards your blog as they were looking at travelling to Thailand next year. Of course, not backpacking but at least it gives them an idea of things to see, from an experienced traveller.
This is how to get drunk cheap in Malawi The big 5 liter 'bleach bottle's are about $18, but the real local way is the sachets, which cost 10 cents each.
Good grief, what's the proof on the stuff? I've zoomed in but can't quite make it out. 40% / 80 proof?
The bleach bottles are 40%, the sachets are 42%. Nkhata Bay is sweet, staying at an awesome guest house right now and will probably chill for a week or so.
Oh, also I made this: (first time filming underwater, I'll get better and so will the scenery)
No, that was with my little point and shoot in rapid fire mode. It would have looked cooler if I cropped it but I was lazy Man, I kind of fucked up my ears though, I think from diving off those rocks and from freediving while having problems with equalization. Both ears hurt and it sucks and OMG WHITNEY HOUSTON IS DEAD11!!
Swimmer's ear is a bitch. Here's hoping you don't end up needing antibiotics. I got a bad case of that skin diving in Maui back in 2001, was basically deaf in one ear for a month.
Oh, btw that was not stupid 'planking', that is me diving And I feel a bit douchey just dropping in to update this thread, but the internet is usually so slow I can't do anything other than update the blog and whatnot, and that takes 2+ hours, then I get sick of sitting at the computer waiting two minutes for every page to open.... wish I could post more on the rest of Tweak.... And it turned out I have an infection in both ears. I took some drugs and it was getting much better but it seems to be coming back. In other news, I am now in Tanzania and saw my first wild lion! My favorite animal.
50/50 vinegar and water in your ears after you shake them out. Too much water screws with the ph in your ear. It should always be acidic. Prolonged exposure to water dilutes the natural acidity of the ear (kills bacteria). Hope you're having fun. Get chased by the black Klan yet?
Yeah, they're a bitch. I researched it after the first time and hope to not ever have one again (last time was both ears at the same time). Now I have pro-swimmer ear plugs and gel.
It's a bad time to have an ear infection because you can't scuba dive with ear problems, and I'm about to head to Zanzibar, which has AMAZING diving I don't want to miss...
Unless you want to miss Zanzibar I'd suggest you get back on antibiotics right away. Even with 2-3 rounds I still had my infection for more than a month. It was misery, was interfering with my sleep, etc.
I can't get to a clinic until tomorrow or the next day when we reach Zanzibar, but I'll get back on antibiotics as soon as I can. Anyways, after spending 4 hours uploading pictures on a slow internet connection, I have a new blog up: http://scottsnextadventure.blogspot.com/2012/02/malawi-more-than-i-ever-expected.html
