Pretty funny Mad parody of Circuit City. It's so funny because it's true. This is probably the worst place for home electronics. The one here in Miami has a bunch of deadbeats working there that could care less about you as a customer. They require your full fucking address to buy a 20oz soda. They never have anything that's on sale. Maybe it's just mine but I have to guess from this parody that it's widespread.

I have had a long term hatred of Circuit City, and have been happy to observe a lot of the stores near me closing. But it's bitter sweet, because their existence probably helps to keep prices down at the place I really like to shop - Best Buy.

Yeah the Circuit City across the street from my local best buy is horrible. They don't have anything, the layout sucks, and everything is more expensive than across the street. It makes no sense.

Having to know your address for things like a soda, or a zip code when you go into a lot of other stores (Best Buy for one) it is your right to simple say no and still proceed with the transaction. Its funny because the last time this guy at the register at Best Buy didn't even look up from the register and asked, "Zip code?" I said, "No" and he looked up at me all awkward, looked at my girlfriend and then back to the register. People are so brainwashed into believing (not you guys) that the system is the incubator of the norm. Doesn't have to be like that.

Ha! I bought a pop at a Best Buy in Seattle and said to the guy "What, you aren't going to offer me the extended service plan on this?"

Well, I was paying with a card. (I know, I know...I need to carry cash)

It really pissed off my brother once when he bought something from Circuit City and the guy was asking his home address (he lives in Hawaii). My brother was saying "What is this for?" and the guy was like "We need it for our records since it's a large purchase" and my brother told him, "No, you don't need it. All you need is this, right?" *holds up credit card* and the guy just shut up.

Reminds me of one time Crackpipe and I were at Circuit City and he bought a Sprite or something and his receipt was like a mile long, lol. It's just overall shoddy business practice.

best buy sucks too. I've actually had more problems with them than Circuit City. I rarely buy anything at their stores unless it's an emergency. The prices are insanely high compared to what I can buy online for. They are fun to browse around in there. I prefer to purchase at Fry's if I have to buy something local.

That's so true. I go to the local places to touch / see a product, but when it comes to actually buy it I shop online. :D

    Lol... very nice

I believe they use this information for market research. One of the biggest databases from POS' owed in the world belongs to Walmart.

I've had Best Buy reps ask me for my zip code when I'm paying. That's fine...but they don't need my whole fucking address.

^^radioshack isnt even good for that.

their electronics sections have dwindled to one small section OF A WALL surrounded by cellphones and accessories.

they mind as well call it "cellphone-shack" because thats what it is.
everytime i go in radioshack, i make sure i let the employees know how much of a shame that business has turned into. I ask for parts they used to carry, then reply with "yea that figures, you only sell cellphones." I ask for toys they used to carry (now a small cobbled cluster sitting on the floors), after a swift "no", i reply.. "that figures radioshack aint like it used to be"

i let the employees know they should be embarrassed for working there.
    /end cellphone-shack rant.

circuitcity.. pathetic excuse for an electronics store.. always located a mile or less away from bestbuy.. the most retarded young ass employees that dont know shit about their own products..

in all honesty, the internet has killed electronic stores

haha this is probably my first post since the boards got hacked a long time ago(been lurking every once in a while), but i cant help myself since i actually work at this shit hole. Keep in mind i'm not totally defending CC but i can shed some light on things.

    1. You don't go to CC if you're looking for the cheapest prices, though sometimes things MIGHT come close to online prices during a sale. Anyone with half a brain knows they can get it cheaper online. The typical person who shops here doesn't know jack shit about what they are buying and they need a sales person to hold their hand on what to pick out.

"I need a ubs flash floppy disk with 4 jigga bites, wich one is the best and how hard is it to install?"
"I need a phone line to ethernet converter adapter"
"I need an HDMI cable...WTF its $100! Oh well I need it"

    2. Giving your personal info on a large purchase: Yeah it seems stupid to have to do this, but you can opt out if you're really paranoid. There is a good side to this though if you lost a receipt on something, we can use your info to pull up your purchase history if you need to check warranty info, etc.

Do you know how many people come in without receipts that are trying to return something or get something repaired and they never gave their info at the time they bought it. So pretty much they are SOL unless they remembered which credit card they used, but if they used cash then tough shit.

    3. Extended warranties: This is a double edged sword, offer the customer an extended plan and have them get pissed that you are just trying to get them to spend more money. Or don't offer it and when they come back after it breaks they complain that the salesman never offered an extended plan.

    4. Salesmen who dont give a shit: Starting pay for a sales associate is 7 dollars(which is BS), with NO commission on sales. So no matter how you treat a customer or whether they buy something or not, you still get 7 bucks. If you're the best salesman in your store you get a pat on the back, while the worst salesman next to you who doesnt give a shit is making the same amount of pay you are.

Also they will treat you as a full timer getting 35-40 hours a week, but you're officially listed as part time so they don't have to pay for your benefits. They are stingy when it comes to handing out the official FT position (maybe 1 per department, with like 10 "part timers")

And just to rehash on the type of people who shop at CC. Majority are cranky old people who complain about everything and don't have a clue when it comes to technology. My favorite is when a customer gets pissed and threatens to go to best buy when they don't like something or don't get their way(Hi can i have senior citizens discount plzz cause im old and should pay less). If only I could speak my mind and say "Aww you're gonna go to BB because we won't fix your 2 year old computer with no warranty on it for free? THEN FUCKING LEAVE"

ya back when I was in college and worked for OfficeMax, it's shit. this was 5-6 years ago but I started at $8/hour at the time so it wasn't that bad (minimum wage was $7.35/hour i believe). There was no commission but you were supposed to sell the extended warranties on EVERYTHING. Ya you got like a penny per dollar of the purchased item or something in your pay check. Such crap. I busted my ass at that place but was treated the same way that the slackers were. I was there for 2 years, you'd think I'd get rewarded in some way. Most people were there for 6 months max. Crappy sales sucks (better than the minimum wage fast food alternative though).

It was funny how stupid the customers are. I know not everyone knows about computers so it's no big deal. That's why I have a job. But since I wasn't based on commission, I would tell them where to buy what they wanted to for the best price. I'd also pimp my business on the side to custom build or fix their computers.

    There's a reason for that:)

Circus city and bestbuyout are the places the electronics manufacturers, as well as wallyworld, go to sell large lots of the substandard shit that gets produced. A dumping ground, so to speak. And RadioShack is a joke. What used to be my favorite store for getting electronics parts, has become nothing more than a cell phone sales outfit. I rarely am inclined to even look there for IC's and stuff.

Go to Radio Shack and take a look in the components bin, there are some new things popping up, SMT parts, they even have a few nifty things from parallax such as the PING ultrasonic range finder, passive infrared motion detector and an rfid setup. its spiffy, now they need to have some sort of PIC to work all these parts and it would be pretty kick ass for quick stops.
I have an full feature electronics place near here, but it takes about an hour to get there with traffic etc...

all you need is fry's. its the closest thing to newegg in a retail chain. prices are great and if you get a bad motherboard, you just drive back and get another one, beats RMAing shit and having to wait a week or so.
