What cell phone does everyone have?

I recently got the Motorola Q and its an awesome little phone. Whats best is that I got it for free in great condition lol

I found a forum that shows how to do hack and lots of little interesting things to these phones but what sucks is that all these nifty little add-ons cost money and some of they are tricky as all hell to install.

...but my main reason for this was to find out what service provider everyone has and how much you pay for data plans? I have verizon and I am usually happy with them but this time I am not. The "unlimited data" plan through verizon is about 40 bucks a month. I think thats insane! My friends who have at&t tell me they pay half that. And on top of that verizon wants another $15 a month for "tethering". Tethering is when you use your phone as a modem and hook it up to your computer to access the interwebs.

Luckily for me I found a program that eliminates that monthly fee. And their "unlimted data" plans are not so unlimited I found out. If you go over 5gb a month you get a warning and might be dropped from verizon.

I am very unhappy indeed

I have the Q as well, but I'm on Sprint.

$50/month for 1250 minutes, unlimited nights, weekends, texts, and data. Plus I get great reception for phone and data pretty much everywhere.

I'm glad I got out of my shiT-Mobile contract without paying the ETF.

I have a T-Mobile MDA (HTC Wizard) on T-Mobile and I pay $5.99/month for the data plan on the phone. I can even tether it for basic web browsing/email but anything else (like games, etc), I would need to pay $20/month for the full internet plan. I love T-Mobile. Fantastic, reliable service everywhere I go and the cheapest carrier for me.

What hacks are you doing, 86mcss, that are costing you? I've used many many smartphones/pda phones for about 3 years and haven't paid a dime for any hack. These phones are certainly powerful and can do a lot. I can't imagine living without them now.

I've worked for verizon, t-mobile, and now at&t doing tier 3 data support so I know the ins and outs of most of the phones. Let me know if you have any questions.

Still rockin' my worn out Motorola Slvr L6. The usual reaction to seeing the phone is, "What the hell is that?" I don't need to connect to the web or anything, I just need a slim phone that fits in my pocket.

Verizon service is the most expensive for a reason...they have the most reliable and fastest network hands down. Their phones on the other hand are severely lacking.

I have Verizon, just basic phone + unlimited txt. No need for a personal data plan. I try not to carry my phone all the time either, being connected 24x7 creeps me out a bit. Where I live, it's either verizon or you don't get service.

My work uses Verizon for treos and BBs, and I must say their data network is the fastest I have ever seen. 300K/s transfer is pretty much the average, and I've seen upwards of 600K/s when I'm near a tower.

    At&t
blackjack unlimited data $20 employee plan
Blackberry Curve 8310 unlimited everything free

At&t's data plans are as follows (and they are about the same as verizon)

unlimited data for regular phones = $20
Unlimited data for blackberry's for personal use = $30
Unlimited data for blackberry's for business use = $45
Unlimited data for pda phones (like the Q) = $40 (it also inlcudes 1500 messages)
Unlimited data for the iphone = $20 (also includes 200 text)

Sprint and verizon have higher data speeds but their overall data coverage is less than At&t's. At&t's data works anywhere your cellphone does.

In my area only at&t and verizon are worth looking at.

just remember, just because they are the mot reliable and fastest for YOU doesn't mean they are for everybody.

Data speeds, in our areas, AT&T, Sprint, and VZW are all pretty damn close.

T-Mobile is behind as they are on EDGE and waiting for the government to release them the 3G spectrum they bought...

But I find T-Mobile to be MORE reliable and work in more areas that I travel than verizon and they are half the price.

I personally despise verizon with a passion but I also worked for them and learned a lot of nasty stuff about them. I never liked them before that either though. Every carrier has their crap but verizon is the most sleazy and I would never use their service unless they were the ONLY carrier that worked where I lived and worked. That's my personal opinion though.

Bottom line, use what works for YOU and YOUR area. You can't base your decision on what I or anybody else uses. Just try each one and make your own decision.

If you want to use your Q you'll have to have either Verizon, Sprint, or Alltel since it runs on CDMA.

I want a Q, but I either wait out my contract (which is another 2 years with my current provider), and go with Rogers after that, OR sign up for a hugely expensive data/cell plan in order to get the Q cheaper. It's a rip off.

this is my plan and phone.

sprint 6700, grandfathered plan, 500min/free n&w, 300txt, unlimited evdo internet and tethering, $50 a month, and that includes taxes and fees, and i get a fedex corp discount of 23%. I rarely talk on the phone, if i do its on the weekends, so the minutes fit me well.

Nice one torx! I didn't know you were into that.

Can that be used on htc phones like the 8525 and the tilt (both gsm, one is wm5 the other wm6)?

yes it can on the 8525, as long as its windows mobile 5 or 6, and qvga.

I pay for mine and my fathers phone plan. for a family plan with unlimited text it cost me about 100 bucks a month. Now on top of that I have to pay another 40 bucks a month for "unlimited data". Its complete booshit! Thats 140 bucks a month plus taxes! I im willing to go to a crappy network if the price is right..im a cheap skate. :D

    chainblade-

I downloaded a messenger program to have aol and yahoo on my phone which was 20 bucks. I also downloaded the PDNet software which eliminates the tethering monthly fee and that program was about 20 bucks as well. I downloaded another program that was like 10 bucks but I forgot what it was for... lol

Ah, went by the wiki entry. Either way, he's not going to be able to narrow it down to Verizon or AT&T, he's going to be limited network wise.

ya you can get several IM programs for free. I am not sure about that tethering thing, although I'd be careful about using that as verizon will terminate you for it and you'd have to pay the etf. I'm sure there is a free method of doing it without spending money on program like that.

    Is the camera any good?

We're thinking about cutting our landline service and getting a cell phone as our house phone.

I have an iPhone and Ben has an 8525. AT&T obviously. We both have unlimited data plans and share minutes and pay around $130 a month for all of it.
