Saving up for that solitude house. Had 20k and went to go buy it but found out it was 25k. So i bought a bunch of ebony ingots to console myself.
So far I'm taking things really slow. I'm level 16, just wandering around doing a combination of the main quest and any interesting side quests I run across. Very little fast travelling, I'm going to savor every second of this. The only house I own is the cheap one in Whiterun, and will likely stay that way for a while. In Oblivion the first time through I bought every house and every upgrade. But when I played the second time I just had the little shack in the waterfront district. I actually had some practical reasons for this. 1) It was centrally located, and easy to sneak into. And 2) I didn't run into the problem where all of my loot was scattered all over Cyrodil. I would be looking for a particular weapon or piece of armor and damnit! It's in my house in Anvil...
I'm doing the same as you MSP. I like that house in Whiterun too. So far it's the only city I've come across with a furnace for making ingots. And iirc there's an enchanter's table in the castle (which isn't in every city either). I don't like to fast travel either (feels wrong to me). I usually start a playing session by selecting every objective, flipping to the map and then just heading to whichever one is closest. And if I encounter something else on the way, so much the better. The only annoying bit is sometimes you clear a cave only to later receive a task that sends you to that very same cave, so you've gotta run all through it again. I think I'm level 28 or something. Got to 100 with Conjuration which is pretty fun (dual artonachs). I always use the bound swords. I love the built in soul capping and not having to carry the extra weight of a real sword. Also, dual wielding is madly strong after the appropriate single-handed upgrades. One thing I need to try now is resurrecting a giant to fight for me.
That's a riot, saw that earlier. Just shows how good the engine really is, that much geometry running so smoothly.
Only now, a few days after the patch, am I experiencing serious lag (ps3). Sucks. If I could just return the game right now, I would. I love it, but this is bullshit.
I was actually experiencing some random crashing last weekend but that seems to have gone away now. Maybe there was a PC patch too?
From what I've been reading. The consensus is to skip the first patch and wait for the next one. http://news.softpedia.com/news/New-...k-Bethesda-Promises-More-Updates-238047.shtml
Heh. Anyone want to bet that the next patch will be even wonkier than the first, since they're fiddling with the underlying code...
Other than the 2-3 crashes last weekend, the only other bugs I've noticed are: Weapons suspended in mid-air after a fight. Arrows vanishing during a fight, so it appears your character is pulling back an empty bow.
I hit 56 last night and have just now finally visited all the major towns. I still have a few smaller towns to visit though. I'm over 100 hours at this point. Game goes on forever. A lot of the misc missions are too similar after a while though especially the tasks you get from inns or jarls.
I walked up a path after sending 2 steel arrows dead-center into 2 wolves heads. Kept walking. Came back down the path and there were arrows that had looked like they were shot into the path from above, spaced mayne 10 feet apart.... 7 in total. I brushed it off and kept going, Never updated BTW.
Too many bugs still, at least with Eyefinity. Have to wait a while to play this one I guess.
^^^ Another reason why I prefer just one big honking screen. No worries about driver bugs or support, etc.
Well I was able to get it working properly in Eyefinity thanks to a fix someone on WideScreen Gaming Forum came up with. It still crashes to the desktop way to often though.
I don't know what it is with Skyrim, but I'm just not addicted to this game like I was Morrowind or Oblivion. I play it for an hour or so every other day, and I'm enjoying it. But I don't have that burning urge to take a PTO day or skip the kid's band recitals to play it. Might just be because I've got a bunch of other interests right now that I also enjoy. Beer brewing, the nightly monster movie in the Man Cave, volunteering at the nature center, cooking, etc. Tonight for example I've got a bunch of people coming over to watch Bad Santa.
There's just a point where more of the same with prettier graphics, is just more of the same, period. At that point, other games with different achievements become more interesting; like brewing that perfect batch of beer, or learning to cook various ethnic dishes.
http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9092366 I've yet to confirm this myself but it sounds about right.
That's funny, I was just there last night. I tried jumping up into the waterfall area like he talked about but couldn't manage it. I figured it must be an exit for another cave higher up. Oh well. :-\
