If I got a rar - how do I open it? or convert it...

What free ware out there is great for that?....

A friend sent me a .rar and said I needed to check it out...being who he is I am going to guess it has something to do with a nekkid woman.... is rar only video - or is it something like a zip file?...

Yes, RARs are just like Zip files but use a different compression algorithm. WinRAR will obviously handle them, but I prefer IzArc or 7-Zip. Both freeware, both support .zip, .rar and a bunch of other compressed formats too.

I prefer Winrar over any other compression program, probably because it was the first thing I used after Winzip so I never cared to move on.

Same. I've used WinRAR for YEARS. Can't think of a reason not to at this point

I use WinRAR for everything, not just RAR files. Zip, 7Zip, Rar, Tar, ISO, etc etc. Great program.

7-Zip is free, open source, and will open almost anything. I use Peazip, myself. There are tonnes of good freeware archivers out there, that will open formats like RAR and ACE files.
