Gah, so my landlord is currently in India travelling, and left his brother in law in charge... now the electricity is in my landlords name and we give him the money for it. Today, the BC Hydro van came to my house and shut the power off while I was asleep. This means that the Landlord's brother in law wasn't paying the hydro bills with the money I was giving him. I want to shoot that fucking towelhead. Anyway... long story short, 2 fridges packed with food gone bad will be committed to videotape, an invoice for lost time on graphic design/video editing will be written by my contracted employer (albeit a false one, tee hee) and I will be dumping that on my landlords lap with the difference of any rent that I owe. His brother in law is not receiving another fucking dime, and tomorrow I will be openning a new Hydro account in my own name, informing them that the tenants (my landlord) no longer live there... Have fun with collections, fuckwad. /rant from work.
Yeah, turns out we found a couple contact numbers for my landlord in India. Gonna give him a call in a few hours.
Document everything, study the 'landlord/tennant act' and hire a lawyer. But be expecting a no-cause eviction notice later on down the road. I'd just sue them and move. How long has the landlord been away? Because it usually takes two or more months arearages to get the juice shut down. Oh wait....you're in B.C. aren't you? I'm not sure of what your laws are concerning tennant rights, but I'm sure there are some provisions on the books.
yea, what Nidex said either that, or he's a total irresponsible prick Because I don't know how it works in BC, but here in Qc, they don't cut your hydro after 1-2 unpaid months, especially in the winter. So I assume that the guy didn't paid for a few bills, or they cut right off the bat in BC
Turns out it was 2 months. The guy looking after it paid it in full. Power restored in 30 hours of being cut off... but I am still keeping receipts to show my landlord, as I'm not paying full rent this month.
This is why I own my place. And you'd be amazed how cheap my "rent" is. Three bedroom, three bath, two car garage, nice fenced in yard - less than $1,200 a month. But Cincinnati is a pretty cheap housing market, so mileage may vary.
