I'm right beside you.... Been working nonstop for the last month. Finally finished up a big tree job ($5000 job) and we are taking tomorrow off! Drinking some vodka and cranberry and my home brew beer. Life is good!

I've spent the past few days reading and drinking Kilimanjaro Beer. It's been an awfully nice way to relax.

I didn't know yesterday was St Paddys day until someone mentioned it to me, then we went to a bar on the Rwanda/Congo border and ran into an actual Irish person :p (the girl on the left)

    Got quite drunk.

So, I'm in a bind. The liquor store was supposed to order me a 1/4 barrel of Real Ale Devil's Backbone, and a 1/6th of St Arnold's spring Bock. Well they didn't order them. And now the spring bock is unavailable.

Since my homebrew stout is still a few weeks from being ready, I need to decide on a different keg.

    Currently I have

1/6th Freetail brewery Rye Wit (american wit beer)
1/6th Irish stout that's on week 2 of fermentation. Still probably needs another week fermenting and a week of carbing.

Was going to order Devils Backbone, and another. Now I'm not even sure about the devils backbone.

WMaube order the devils backbone and a 1/6th dogfishhead 90 minute IPA? 1/4 of Deschutes Black Butte? Help me pick something out.

Http://WWW.specsonline.com check out their keg selection and let me know.

or: I could just order a 1/4 of something else, and spend theonry I would have spent on a keg on more homebrew equipment, and another corny keg? The downside to that would be I'd only have 2 beers to choose from until my stout is ready, and all 3 of those would need to last until the next batch is finished.

I have no idea what my sentence is supposed to mean.

Anyways, spent this weekend at Trinity Brewing and at an Avery Tap Takeover at my local, awesome, NY style pizza place. Just finished the 1000 something year old recipe Irish beer growler I bought and still have a full growler of their 500+ year old recipe English Ale in the fridge.

So I've happily discovered Africa's first good beer, an Amber here in Ethiopia.

I've spent the last two nights chewing khat and drinking with locals. Good times.

Figures the Ethiopians would have the good beer! The imported beers at the Ethiopian place I used to frequent were usually quite a bit better than most Asian beers I've had.

Most of Africa is just boring ass flavorless lagers, this country also has more brands of beer than most others I've been two. Yay!

I have drank quite a few beers in the last few months. When I was in Bahrain, beer was plentiful but very expensive. The most drank beer was German Heineken. It tasted like crap, and I didn't drink much of it. In Singapore, the only bet we could drink was Tiger Ale. It was a very rough, cheap beer that left a horrible hangover. The locals told us that the beer contained formaldehyde, which was used as a preservative. I only drank it two or the times, as one pitcher drank by me left me hurting the entire next day. Here in the Philippines, the beer of choice is Sam Miguel. They have a few varieties (light, Pilsen, and a premium pilsner). They are all decent beers. Their light beer is comparable to Coors Light, and the other two beers are really quite tasty and refreshing.

Next I'm on to Japan, where I look forward to drinking many different varieties of sake and new kinds of beer. One type of sake I'm going to try to buy and send home is called Habu Sake. It is regular sake, but a habu viper (it's a species of a pit viper snake) is put into the bottle with the sake. The venom from the viper leaches into the sake, causing it to give a very different feeling when drank. It supposedly slows a persons metabolism, and makes their body process the alcohol very slowly. I should have a good description of it within the next 2 weeks. Interestingly enough, habu sake is controlled carefully. Only 3 shots can be consumed per person per day, to prevent a person from ingesting too much venom.

Yep, I'm getting drunk in Japan.... How many others can say that? Starting bar hopping in Sasebo, in a bar called Shooters located in "Sailor Town." Drinking an Asahi beer now. Gonna be a good night!

Sorry. Lost Wi-fi last night. Wound up at a tiny karaoke bar which turned out to be a blast. Quite a few locals, and a great sound system. I sang karaoke, which turned out to be pretty fun. Their system rated you on a scale of 1-100 as to how well you sang the song. First song I sang I got a 97. Since it was such a high score, the barmaid offered me a free shot. I looked across the bar and immediately found my drink. It was a smallish bottle of yellow liquor, with a whole snake in the bottom. It was the infamous Habu Saki I had heard so much about. It is basically a sake, where after bottling the company drops a (usually live) Habu Viper (very poisonous snake) into the bottle. The venom leeches into the sake, and it gives a very interesting drunkenness. I had a shot, and continued to sing. Next two songs I sang I scored an 88, and double number scores get free drinks too. So, two more shots of Habu Saki it was.

Those three shots gave me one hell of a night. I wasn't trashed, and could definitely function. My body just tingled, and I was really mellow. Met some cool locals, and made it back to the ship alive. I'd say that's a good night!
