Good luck on that one dearheart. I took off out of Anchorage one easter and it was snowing like crazy. I was surprised that they even concidered taking off. There was no problem. but that was Anchorage where they had all the equipment to battle the snow. Ct, I'd not worry as much as I would Seattle. I hope it breaks enough and it's safe enough for you.

Damnit. Came home today. Took 3 tries to get up my driveway. I wish I had snow tires.

I've spent the day getting ready, its coming:

No idea how hard its going to hit, but without a doubt, something is coming.

Saw a guy skiing out my window.

Since the snow/ice is from Wednesday a lot of the busy streets are fairly clear and easy to drive on.

But most of the smaller streets are a sheet of ice literally.

I went to my parents and picked up a bunch of wood since I don't really have any dry wood at my place. If the power goes out I'll have no problems staying warm with my wood stove.

Thats my brothers car, he spun out on the freeway and got side-swiped by another car. Oops!

Anyways, here's to hoping the storm isn't too bad.

Good luck, guys. I have always kept canned goods, lanterns, candles, and flaslights around for just such an occasion. Especially when I was up in Connecticut... Now I have a fireplace, and we always keep a good stockpile of wood (or at least try to). Not that we have to worry about such weather here.... :D

I can't wait, I hope it dumps down while I'm at work tonight.

If I'd moved a few months earlier, I'd have a massive stockpile of wood, but thanks to the timing I wasn't able to get any ahead of time. Believe me once spring comes around I'll literally be taking dump-truck loads of wood home to split and stack ;)

Edit: The snow has just begun to fall again.

Went back yesterday to try to conquer the spot that got us the day before. The good news is we didn't get stuck. The bad news is we only got 100 yards or so further up. We'll be going cack up tomorrow. Should be nice and muddy as the snow has been melting slowly the past 3 days.

In Seattle right now. Sixth avenue and all of downtown is cold and snowy. I prefer Colorado snow. this shit is cold as hell and I need to get to the other side of the sound tomorrow afternoon. I hope we're not snowed into Seattle.

We got squat here, an inch or two and some ice. Enough for me to have some fun with the AWD but not enough to make things too much of a pain in the ass.

lol, Seattle looks like Milwaukee; as far as the street/houses go, but you'd have to add about a foot of snow. I was thinking about you guys when I got stuck snowblowing the sidewalk earlier so I took some shitty cell phone pics. :D

i wish i was prepared lol. i can't afford to be. I don't really have any extra money right now. Hopefully the power won't go out. I don't have a fireplace to keep myself warm. If it happens, I'll probably walk over to my ex-girlfriends parents house (just down the block) as they have a fireplace. weather.com said we were supposed to get 5-8 inches in my area...which is on top of the probably 3 inches that we already had. Damn. it's been freezing for a week now. totally insane for this area.

Well nothing much has happened yet, but there is still plenty of time for the snow to build up.

This thread should be renamed "The Official Snowstorm Thread!"

I just watched a guy on a snowmobile racing around the streets.

Then he backed it into a parked car and drove away. Typical asshole snowmobile rider...

We probably have 5 inches or so. Coming slow and in small icy flakes. No wind yet.

ya it's not thick flakes, that's for sure. It's been snowing since 3pm here. Small flakes but steady. We've had some wind but nothing crazy like they predicted.

Just got back from drinking on 2nd avenue with friends... did some tobogganing with a bartender down Denny way. fucking crazy night. Seattle is smaller than I expected for its reputation, but still fun as fuck.

It's been a fun little snow storm.

So it was midnight last night, and I decided to go out and have some fun in my new-ish car. Or at least I haven't had it in the winter time. So I went down to an industrial area with big wide empty roads. And I tore that shit up. Driving down the totally snow covered roads, cranking the wheel and spinning around in the middle of the street. Fun times.

    A stuck bus.

This is like 1am, people are out in every street sleeding, snowboarding, and drinking it seems. It's around UW Frat Row, so its just one big party.

Met up with some drunk friends at his place. That's travisty08 on the right.

YouTube - My Subie In The Seattle Snow

Went to a big open parking lot to have more car fun. It's not that exciting looking in the video though, but it was damn good times. I have to say that car has really impressed me in dealing with snow. I didn't have ANY problems going up and down snowy hills.

    "It smells like brakes"

Besides I5, 99 here is the largest north-south route in Seattle, and that's what it looks like. Yah, the city is almost shut down.

Here it is the next morning, still a mess.

So I went to my parents house, picked up my dad and some skis and went out for more fun.

We went to a golf course and I tested out my new telemark boots on this little hill.

But that was kind of boring, so we put on our cross country skis and skied around the golf course. Tons of people out sledding.

My beard keeps me warm :)

And more messes on the road.

dang 950, that looks like fun. I REALLY want to take my Explorer out but with no job, I don't want to spend the money on gas or possibly wrecking it. People around my neighborhood are doing the same thing. Skiing, snowboarding, sledding, all over the road. One guy in his Dodge Ram 1500 is just driving around the neighborhood sliding around. I've been stuck in my house for literally a week (besides going out once to get some food). What a terrible time to be poor...

    Well this is fucked.

I had a 10:30am flight to San Francisco this morning, so I left at around 7:30 due to potential weather problems. I normally take the streetcar to the MAX (light rail) and then MAX to the airport. It takes 35-40 minutes tops and costs $2.

I get on the streetcar and the driver says that they're only making 3 stop loops so the lines don't freeze or something, so you get off at the 3rd stop and walk to the next one. Repeat until you get to the destination.

I do this once but decided to hop on a bus instead because the sidewalks and streets are pretty horrible to walk through with 1ft of snow and a ton of luggage.

I get up to the MAX and it turns out that the red line (the line that goes to the airport) isn't running due to weather, but instead you can get on the blue line and go as far as you can, then take a provided shuttle from there to the airport. This sounded like it was going to take really long, so I called a cab but they had 2+ hour waits. I guess I had to suck it up.

We get about halfway to the shuttle stop when the driver says we can't go any further because of frozen tracks. A few other people and I decide to bus up to the shuttle and go to the airport from there.

When I left my house, Alaska Airlines said my flight was on time and totally fine. I started getting a bit weary as my departure time got closer and closer, so I decided to check once again. Turns out it was canceled.

I was hoping that I could get on a later flight when I got up there, but the place was a complete shit storm. Mobs of people everywhere, tons of canceled flights, news cameras, etc etc. I found out that I won't be able to fly out until the 26th at the very soonest.

So it looks like I either have to drive down there or I'm spending Christmas up here alone.

Oh yeah, and it took 4hrs to get to the airport. Fun stuff.

edit: and of course, a picture

Weather hasn't been too bad here aside from single digit temps at night. But we have a huge storm coming in, supposed to drop 4-8" of snow tomorrow. Should make for an interesting christmas.

I'm just glad I'm not living at my old house. The city couldn't afford as many plows as they needed, and the street I lived on didn't have sidewalks so everybody parked in the street (short driveways = 1 car max). You'd have your car BURIED in the snow from the plows when they finally showed up. Usually saw plows every 4 hours or so, and we were on a hill. It was hell I tells ya, pure unadulterated hell!
