i know putting low octane fuel in a car that needs high octane fuel is bad but what about putting 91 octane fuel in a car that only needs low octane fuel. the only reason im asking is because this gas station near where i live just had octane 91 available today and they had it priced at low octane prices because thats the only thing they had. i didnt fill up but if i did, would i notice anything? would it be bad?

Use the octane recommended in your owner's manual. Any more and you're wasting money and possibly hurting performance (even if slightly). It's not really bad for the vehicle to use higher than needed though

My car requires 94 octane minimum and it's not exactly a thrill to fill up the tank. I'd much rather use 87, but I need 94 to prevent my engine from blowing itself up :(

ya, the only reason i asked is because they had it at the same price as low octane fuel because they didnt have low octane fuel to sell.

Higher octane is... well harder to ignite.. So on turbo cars and such, you want higher octane to prevent detonation..

Nothing bad will happen from running higher octane in a regular recomeneded car.

    Yeah exactly.

Higher octane is harder to ignite so if you put it in a car that doesn't require it, some of the gas could go unburned and mess with your cat converter.

Unburned gas means less power and lower fuel economy too :D

I used high octane in my neon and it ate the gas right away. And my car ran wierd.

Low octane runs awesome and is what is recomended for my car.
