Started my axle swap today. Going from a 19 spline dana 44 rear with 2 peice axles, 4.27 gears and a limited slip rear end to a Full width dana 44 with 4.88 gears, 30 spline, 1 peice axles and a full spool. Front is going from a dana 27 to a dana 44 full width with 4.88s, 30 spline inners (iirc) and 19 spline outers, and a lunch box locker (probably a lockrite.
FOr the front, I ve only heard good things about the Powertrax No-Slips. Have fun with the spool on the street
no, going from 5 on 5.5 to 6 on 5.5. i am hopefully going to pick up my new spring hangers this friday and get to work on saturday.
Just ordered my new spring perches, shackle mounts, and solid spring mounts. should be here between friday and monday. while working on the old axles (taking the wheel cylinders out) the spring perches just fell off i was just hammering on the side of the axle and it fell off, the other side i was able to break off with minimal effort
A spool is not meant for the street unless you only plan on going forward. You'll see. The 4.88 gear is way overboard man. Have I missed a thread because this build up is strictly for rock climbing?
ive driven a jeep on the street with a spool so i am not worried about it. why are 4.88 gears overboard? yes, this will be 90% off road only.
overboard? haha, my new axles have 5.13's in them. 37's and an OD tranny should even it out a bit though, even with my 360 the axles should treat you well justin, better than ol' dana 27 and 19 spline 44 anyways
Ha. Thats good. You might want to look into the 4x4 stuff a bit more. 4.88s with 35s will give you approximately the same ratio as running 4.10s with stock sized tires.
Pirate??? Nah not really. I only go there as a last resort. THey're not interested in helping anyone with street/trail rigs. All they care about is 1 ton running gear and transfercase doublers.
heh, thats mostly true. the international section actually isnt that bad. i mainly go there to see people get flamed. i got the new spring perches tacked in right now, im going to make the shackles here in a few minutes to test everything out. then ill get it welded up. only one side is done right now.
todays progress. i started working around 10:30 and its now almost 8. took 2 breaks to go to discount autoparts and home depot. worked a total of around 7-8 hours. measured the wheel base and i streched it 2 inches. in the first picture you can see what is left of my exaust system from last weekend at the rock pit.
i just scared the shit out of myself.... i was measuring the wheel base on both sides now that the axle is sitting under it, came out to 101 on the pass. side and 103 on the drivers  then i realized the front wheels were turned
there is no weight on the grey jackstands \/ yes, the rear axle is off centered, its about 4 inches too far to the right....
Don't you think you should beef up those shackles with some braces going across the 2 sides? Looks like they'd fold over and bend really easy set up like that.
ill do that when i have the new poly bushings in. the rims are only 7 inches wide, and im putting 33x13.50 tires on them..... can you say balloned?
Sexy rims, hu? it doesnt look really wide because i went from a 33x13.50 on a 15x10 rim with ~3 inches of back spacing to a 15x7 with ~5 inches of back spacing :?
Nice rims... I like the black steelies myself. Picked up an 86 Sammi today. Mostly stock, except for a header and a bit of shackle lift.
latest. the rear axle is done, i have to put new wheel bearings in and get the gears installed. then build the driveshaft. just pulled the front off a few minutes ago. i need to decide if i want to do a RS or normal style now. edit: forgot the picture
i dropped my scout off of the jack stands onto it.... the picture is AFTER i tried to straiten it out  [/img]
