I've got two kids now and two small cars (civic @ 100k miles now and jetta). I plan on trading in the civic to get a larger sedan/suv/crossover and wondered what opinions everyone had. It seems that Edmunds.com has the gmc terrain as the top crossover but I've read complaints about advertised fuel economy.

I'd like to have something to fit all four of us in the vehicle with decent storage and decent fuel economy. It's a PITA to have your in-laws give you something only to realize you can't fit it in your car.

Anyways...any thoughts or ideas for new or used cars?

My wife drives a Buick Enclave; the GMC equivalent is the Acadia. They are both awesome vehicles with plenty of room and capabilities. My brother-in-law drives a Ford Edge and I really like it, especially for the price. Back to my wife's car though... It's one of the smoothest, quietest, and comfortable rides I have ever been in. At this point, my wife doesn't want to consider any other vehicles. When it's time for a new car, she wants another Enclave.

Damn. I was hoping nobody would bring up the Enclave because that's what my wife wants...a brand new expensive car (I'm cheap). I do appreciate the info though because that may be what I focus on next instead of trying to find a cheap used crossover.

I've heard good things about Subaru's but the downside is I only know one person who owns one. I'll research that one, too. Thanks

With my job, I've rented a Ford Edge, Flex, and a Escape. All not bad vehicles, but little quirks I wasn't too fond of. I also rented a 2011 Grand Cherokee last year and it was a fun drive and spacious. But it was a jeep...so hard to say overall.

My boss and a fellow co-worker drive new MDXs and talk about spacious. Really nice if you want to pay for the price.

I took a 2011 Dodge Journey for a spin, and while it was okay, not recommended in my opinion. Maybe the newest model might be nicer (bigger engine and different setup inside) but...yeah...not the greatest.

Now...on to my baby. I bought an '08 Acadia with the SLT2 package last year. Other than the usual issues of buying a used vehicle (130k on it...that's KM..not miles) I love it. It's spacious, rides pretty good, has some pick-up to it, and with the SLT2 package...heated leather seats, 7-passenger seating, dvd entertainment package, satellite radio, etc. it's awesome. In city, the mileage is about par for a big vehicle, but between highway and city...I've got 749km on a tank.

If I could afford to, I would buy a newer model but of course, I can't. And if the Acadia has all these nice features, a new Enclave would be even nicer.
    SoulAssassin says thanks for this.
