1) No idea, but it sure is cool looking isn't it! 2) It depends on the place, I would say most are gold paint (only seen gold leaf a few places, and just on sculptures) but the fancier ones (such as the Royal Place Complex) are actually thousands upon thousands of little tiles like this: 3) Yah, it's not a great picture of me on the elephant, is it? Here is an action shot, and another you may enjoy 4) Yes, coins. One from me as well. Truth. That's not the goal, I want to inspire people, not depress them!
It's inspiring AND depressing. A warm reminder to squeeze the most of out life at all times, and a cold reminder of time squandered and opportunities overlooked. Keep doing what you do man.
cool cool followup! i cant imagine coming back home after all that fun.. i think it was msp that said fiddy was like a caged monkey ready to escape, and it looks about right! He got his escape!
So today I got a good indication from a co-worker that I can probably stay longer if I choose too do so...
Haha this seems oddly familiar. When I got to the India stage of my trip I found out my commitment to comming home was extended. Then I needed more cash to keep traveling. Let me know if you end up needing that gem smuggling guys number.
Cool. Well folks, IM IN MOTHERFUCKING INDIA! This shits so tight. Staying with my friends family, the wedding, it's nuts: http://scottsnextadventure.blogspot.com/2011/02/welcome-to-india.html
It was amazing. Three days of dancing, music, color, food, family and so on. I took hundreds of pictures, it was a hell of a show. Internet access here isn't great, but I hope to have my next post up about the wedding in the next few days. Quick teaser: (I also got a tailored suit for ~$120
Glad you got out of Cambodia and Thailand, a border "war" has broken out over some disputed land surrounding an 11th century temple. Anyway, I dig the suit. Of all the places you've been India is really the first place that's given me jealousy pains. My buddy Raj has promised to take me back with him sometime. While you're there you should go see a Bollywood movie in the theater. I hear it's quite an experience, people come and spend the better part of the day because the theaters are air conditioned.
If you want to be an extra in a Bollywood movie hang out near the McDonalds early in the morning on Colaba near Leopolds in Mumbai. Filmmakers round up tourists to be extras there. Kind of like being a day labourer from a Home Depot parking lot.
(let me know if this link is working, seems to be having problems) Safari, forts, trains and planes: http://scottsnextadventure.blogspot.com/2011/02/on-safari-and-in-forts-of-ranthambore.html
Check out Elephanta if you go to Mumbai. It is a short ferry ride form the city and quite amazing. Jaipur has some really cool stuff and you can experience some of the Ragistan culture there as well. And a sweet observatory called Jantar Mantar that is around 300 years old. Also I had a little more luck in Ranthambore (see below). I read your blog post about it and you didn't mention that the Indian royalty used to use the park as their private hunting grounds. If I remember correctly the guide told us they used humans as bait.
