You're seriously misguided. It amazes me that people waste so much time and energy trashing someone's beliefs. I think deep down you know you aren't going to convince with your rants, it's just your narcissistic desire to be heard from your soapbox.

but mormons have had nothing to do with polygamy for over 100 years...saying that today's mormons are polygamys is incorrect and is like calling all germans nazis

im not saying that todays mormons are polygamists, not at all, i have alot of friends who are mormon, i live in a town that is 90% mormon, im saying that the problem i have with flds is the polygamy, the problems i have with LDS ( todays mormons) is a whole other matter. there are to many holes in there religion for it to be geniune. im not mocking it, i just dont understand how people in this day and age can ignore facts. thats all. mormon people in general are some of the nicest people i have ever met, i dont have a problem with them, just with their beliefs.

I just go along with the "who fucking cares" standpoint. In all honesty if you are dumb, gullible, and immature enough to be taken in by one of these "cults" like polygamy or scientology then you deserve whatever comes to you. Plus its not always bad...it gives these people something to live for when they might have been so depressed before they wanted to take a toaster bath. These types of groups give them a feeling of belonging and meaning in their lives which is what we all search for. If you get a hard-on attacking these people be my guest because that gives you meaning and something to live for but ask yourself: would these people honestly be better off living a "normal" live if that is what they have chosen to live and become accustomed to?

no you are right, i dont have a problem with people living how they, want they should live how they want, the only reason i am doing this is because the mormons where i live have continuiously tried to convert me and my family, but when i start asking them for the facts instead of the fairytales the change the subject. I actually was considering join the mormon church BEFORE i started researching it.

Here's a tip Mr. Pro Internet Blogger: You want people to take you seriously in a somewhat intellectual debate on a subject? Use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. You're going to be taken more seriously (despite the lack of logic) than if consistently misspell one of the key subjects of your posts.

Copy your post into Word, check it for correct grammar and punctuation, and then copy it back into the post box and submit. It's really not hard to do. ;)

    To joeG,

I'm confused as to how you can claim Mormons are crazy and "fucked up", then turn around and say you're friends with an LDS member and think they're some of the nicest people you know. If their religion is "fucked up" then why associate with them?

It's the crazy people that do stupid stuff that are to blame, not the religion itself. Every religion has their crazy nutjobs, not just the LDS. I've lived in Utah for 19 years now, and I have no qualms with Mormons at all. Some of their beliefs are a bit weird, but it's a choice they make. Polygamy has been forbidden by the LDS religion for a while. If it's forbidden by the religion, how can you say it's a flaw of said religion?

I'm also curious as to how you have come to the conclusion that the LDS religion is fucked up. Your poor spelling and grammar is keeping me from reading your blog, so I'd like a tl;dr (too long; didn't read) summary here (cliff notes). So what if they follow the teachings of Joseph Smith? How is that any different than Catholics following the Pope? He can 'talk to god', as they claim. The same thing that happened with Joseph Smith. Televangelists believe they can focus god's energies to heal people, and there are alot of people that follow them. There are countless religions out there that have people who can 'talk to god', and yet I see you pointing your finger at the LDS religion as if they are the only ones who blindly follow somebody who could 'talk to god'.

I'm a former Catholic, now atheist. I've read up on alot of religions to decide what would be best and have since decided that there is no form of religion I wish to follow.

If you want to point the finger at some batshit crazy people, point the finger at the leaders of Scientology. That 'religion' is a cult, not the LDS religion.

hahaha. Its amazing we have so many members considering how we consistently rip into new members. Reminds me of Fight Club when you stand on the doorstep for three days before you are a member for life.

I think joeG is actually right, grammar and punctuation aside. My wife is a former Mormon and they are bat-shit crazy. No better or worse than Scientologists as far as I'm concerned. Ever hear of "baptism for the dead"? Yeah, that crazy.

well now, i guess everyone wants to put their 2 cents in, sorry im not trying to a perfect student, this is the internet not highschool, so i hope you all can understand what im saying when i use a lower case i instead of I. also, is that all you can come up with to say something bad about what i wrote? and i would also like to say that just because i have a problem with someones beliefs, does not mean that i have a problem with the person themselves. and again let me make this clear, my problem with LDS is not polygamy, here are some of the problems i have with LDS, the fact that they choose to worship someone who is a proven liar, he lied about translating another set of plates, then it came out that those plates were fake made by someone for the purpose of proving him a fake. they were not even egyptian writing, and he said they were the same kind of plates he originally translated. so put 1 and 1 together, if he says he translated the fake set, and they were from the same people as the first, what does that tell you? also there is a battle that joseph smith said took place around a hill called Cumorah, in new york, in the book of mormon, it says that in this battle 2,230,000 people died. thats is over 2 million people, and they were said to have fought with steel weapons, this is said to have happened in 187 B.C. well where is the evidence? where are the bones, the weapons, any artifacts at all? this only happened about 1000 years ago, so where is the proof? ok here is there argument about it, the weapons have all rusted away, okay thats a justified argument, but we would still find oxidized minerals, also there were horses cows farm animals etc, supposed to be there, well what happened to the animals? did they rust away too? because there were no animals of that sort in north america until the europeans arrived, much much later then this is said to have happened. ok this is just some of my arguments with what their beliefs say, i dont care what they believe in, i just think they should know the facts, thats all, and i also think that if they knew these facts, some of them would question if they are being fooled. all religions have messed up parts in them, im not just attacking mormons, catholics are fucked up too, so is islam. mormonism is what i am studying right now, im not going to go into all religion at once, lets just do one at a time. and i really dont want to get started on scientology.

I look at a person's worth by how well they walk thier talk, be it Mormon, JW,
Buhdist, Muslim or Catholic. I work for Mormons and, for the most part they
have a handle on what they believe and walk the talk. I've met some in all religeons that believe that "talk" is good enough. Myself, I don't believe anything that has been written by any man that a church was formed around.
There's just too much room for human frailties to fuck it up.
Multiple wives?....... I have one and that's all I care to deal with. like most fantasies, better left a fantasy than attempt to live that one out.:unibrow:

Also, beliefs don't need to be derived from fact and truth. It's something that some people need to get through the day. Let them believe in lies if they want to, who are they hurting? And just a little tip from one religious studies student to another, I'd suggest lightening up and becoming a bit more accepting of other cultures. It's hard to grasp an idea completely when you have a wall up in front of you.
