haha, ok, I'm not getting this anymore. I don't have the patience to follow game stories in-depth anymore, much less hour long cutscenes.

90 minute? WTactualF? I could go and complete MGS2 (skipping the cutscenes, of course) in that time!

Hideo is losing the idea; people like to play games, not watch them.

Let him direct his own movie so he can get this crap out of his system.

Did he manage to max out the lone 50gb disc then? If so then either the game is epically huge or there is way too much cinema.

    Apparently the latter...

I usually don't mind but, that's fucking pushing it. Actually, that can't be right. I'll guarantee that's either a shitty website pumping fake news to boost hits, or a mistranslation. No one would ever sit though a 90 minute long cutscene. Kojima knows better than to make the pacing that fucking awkward. I doubt a single cutscene in MGS4 goes longer than twenty minutes, and that'll be the epic ending speeches.

    oh okay.

Anyways, as long as it's clearly stated on the box and not hidden, it's a choice to buy the "game" or not.

I put down a deposit on the standard edition yesterday and got the last physical copy of the game from FYE this morning. I've been playing since I resolved my little audio problem.

Totally worth the wait and the hardware purchase.

I picked it up on a whim last night. What a spectacular game. The voice acting, animation, graphics, sound, gameplay is all amazing. The polish in this game is up there with COD4.

The camerawork really keeps you in the cutscenes as well. It's not a stiff camera

My problem is that I've been playing nothing but CoD for the past few days and need to get away from the "shoot everything that moves" mentality back to the sneaking mindset.

No 90 minute cutscene, but I'm going to estimate that almost half the game is cutscenes.

Content is content. For $60 + hardware, you are getting many hours of entertainment over what, boredom while doing your daily things?

As long as it doesn't feel stretched out as if they felt they "MUST" fill the entire disc, I'm all for the additional quality content.

Extra storage allows and better hardware allows the developer to do many things. I expect audio to also to take a big notch forward like it did when CDs were introduced. FMVs were expected, but 90 min cutscenes (plural!) took me by surprise. I wonder how FFXIII will use up the disc space. I was going to see if I could borrow a friend's PS3, since they have Wii and 360 as well, but looks like I'm going to need to favor/bribe him.

Just beat it. The pacing is fucking horrible. The first two acts are kinda cutscene heavy (there isn't a segment of cutscenes under a half hour), then you play the last 3 acts and realize they're just 7 hours of cutscenes (Not exaggerating...) with like 45 minutes of gameplay sprinkled in.

That said, I'm a big MGS whore so I still liked it, because the cutscenes in general were awesome. There were a few that dragged (the fucking briefing...), but the epic scenes made up for it. The gameplay in acts 1/2 and the boss fights throughout the rest of the acts were amazing, too.

It's a 9/10, but don't go fucking near it if you aren't a huge fan of the series, and kept up with the storyline.

How can you possibly enjoy a game which in your own words consists of two "cutscene heavy" acts followed by 3 acts with 7 hours of cutscenes and 45 minutes gameplay? If that's accurate I'm not even sure it should be called a "game". I played one of the earlier MGS games on my brother's PS2 years ago and it wasn't bad, so I was thinking about buying MGS4, but after that description I won't waste my money.

I hate cutscenes, in general, but I love these. I'm not even a huge MGS fan. I recommend trying it out

I heard the first part of the game is very cutscene heavy, but it thins out as the game goes on. I haven't read the article, but I'm almost 100% sure that they mean a total of 90 minutes, not one giant 90 minute cutscene. Either that, or it's simply an exaggeration which would not surprise me; after all, this is the internet.

What's so great about these particular cutscenes that people are willing to put up with hours of them? I have no idea at all about the whole MGS storyline - I know the name "Solid Snake" and not much else, so I'd just be skipping them anyway. If you take away the cutscenes, is what's left honestly enough to constitute a game that's worth playing?

It's pretty fun gameplay wise. The "cutscenes" are in game action and dialogue, so it's not like Final Fantasy where it's all pre-rendered film. It will also do a lot of dialogue or action, then let you play for a few minutes and go back into the cutscene, so you're not just sitting there forever waiting to play.
It actually reminds me a lot of Assasin's Creed's cutscenes and storytelling style, except there's actually a game underneath it all.
