I am in the market to replace a 1997 bmw 328 is coupe that I have had.

I was just looking at the Mazda 3 and 6's and they have some very reasonably priced cars.

Anybody have any experience with them? like them? or have alternative suggestions??

    Thanks

Yeah, they are pretty nice cars. They have cool styling and are usually pretty sporty compared with other cars in their class. They are more reliable than Mitsubishi and most Korean cars IMO. Not as nice as Honda for holding up, but the Mazda cars are mostly more fun.

The 3s are really cool. I like the hatchbacks especially. I wouldn't buy a 6.

I had a 2003 Mazda Protege before it was rebadged as the 3. I loved that car. excellent styling and a blast to drive. I liked the 6's as well.

I have the Mazda 3 hatch. The 2.3 liter is a solid engine, and outside the regular maintenance the only problem I have had was a broken belt tensioner (almost 89k miles).

I think as far as economy shitboxes go, the Mazda 3 is the best one. They've got the best fit and finish of anything aside from the much more expensive luxury cars; excellent feature set and a great chassis (which means great handling). They're smooth and quiet and have adequate power for anything you could want. Good fuel mileage too.

I'm actually shopping around for a Mazda 3 for myself next winter. I'd like a 4 door hatch with a manual gearbox to replace my Civic and something I can keep for 5, 6, 7 years plus.

I'm pretty picky and have been checking out a LOT of different cars. I need something 4 door (prefer a hatch too), that comes with a decent set of power features (windows, AC, good stereo, heated seats) and is most importantly: FUN TO DRIVE, decent chassis and reliable/economical.

I just have to get a good long test-drive on the Mazda 3 to verify my thoughts and I'll probably pull the trigger on it

A few of my friends have Mazda 3s or 6s. They love them, the only problem is they are more common than civics where I live. Probably not an issue for most people but I would hate to have the same car as everyone else.

But unless you have a one-off car, you're going to have the same car as everyone else

A lot of people in Miami have Mazda 3s. I haven't seen any other Mazda 6's since I bought mine in mid-December.

i like the 3.. the engine is pretty rev happy like a honda,, well the older hatchbacks the newer ones are just too round and you can't even see your own hood and such.. watch out for some 6's i hear some of the older ones i think around 2000 not sure have problems

The V6s use a Ford engine, and the Mazda 3 is assembled in Japan. The Mazda 6 is assembled in the good ol' U S of A. That's why I decided to stick with the 3.
