this game is fucking DEEP. im at the citadel and i can just tell this game is immersive as fuck! i havent even began to travel planets yet, and im sure the first 2hours of the game is merely a teaching platform to get you used to the gameplay. the water in this game has to be the most beautiful ive seen in a console game. graphics are impressive but of course it lags at times with the texture popin.. but you know i dont even pay attention to it, the storyline and gameplay steers my attention away.. After a while you just lookover it.. I usually dont like games like this, KOTOR, etc but this is really drawing me in. my problem is that i have a hard time remembering names and faces in real life, also in games.. Places and names get thrown around like crazy in this game and i just get lost real easy. RPGTPS games are notorious for throwing at you new names and people often, so it is hard to keep up. I cant imagine how many more species and people i'll be meeting in the future. The menu system for selecting what your npcs should do is getting easier to work with.. selecting weapons, upgrading, leveling, all that is just .. overwhelming. What do you guys think for the ones that own it so far?
That's what I like about FPS's...if you don't agree with it or want to deal with it....you just pull out you biggest gun and blow it to smithereens. When is there going to be a nuke BFG? We need a game with a nuker.
I just finished my first play through yesterday. I'd have to rank this game in the Top 10 all time. Its amazing, start to finish.
dude, the voice acting!?!? DUDE!! everyone said it was great but damn!! thats an understatement.. I really wanna hear more actors in games.
I'm not overall impressed by it :X. I never played KOTOR, but the combat is seriously leaving something to be desired. I blast a guy in the face with a shotgun and he doesnt even get knocked back? Wtf?
thats all part of the armoring and leveling system with these types of games.. its not where you shoot them, its what kind of weapon you have and is it upgraded enough to take them out with 2 or 3 hits as opposed to a head shot. The combat definately leaves something to be desired as it gets real clunky at times trying to manuever around to shoot people... 6hrs in and im just now able to go to other planets.. eventually will i be able to visit all of these planets?? because some you just read about and some you can actually land on..
so far i love this game. the environments are great, the conversation trees well done, the voice acting is the best of any game i've ever played. a few gripes about the battle system, mostly just that it's too difficult to control your squad. i've been playing as an infiltrator, a class without a lot of close range combat, so i'm pretty cautious with my combat, but what's happened about couple of times is that my guys will run in, get killed, and i'll clean up everyone from a distance. besides that, the combat is a lot of fun. my big problem is the infrequency of the auto saves. i had a big battle, drove the vehicle for like 15 minutes, than came up on some mech guys with missile launchers and got killed. no big deal, just have to look at it from a different angle, but when my game loads i'm all the back at the first battle. >_< kind of frustrating, but the game is fun enough that i don't mind doing it again.
yea the save system kills me! you have to anticipate a save for a supposed future battle.. because you cant save in battle, sometimes its greyed out :/
It's even mroe impressive when you realize that they had to record both a male AND female lead voice. Also, the animations really make this game come to life. Short of some questionable ally AI sometimes (do they HAVE to keep me from getting out of cover?), this game is fantastic; I've spent 13 hours so far and am about halfway through I'd guess? Definitely worth buying.
*minor spoilers* just got the all biotic girl, (liara?) i made the mistake of fighting her mother before i got her, i think i was a lower level than i was supposed to be, because the fight was damn hard! probably took me near to 1/2 an hour to complete because the enemies were so strong. the hard part wasn't benezia, but her soldiers after i killed her becuase all my skills were recharging.
Spoiler So, I just got confronted by a dude and an alien chick for trying to get with both of them. I ask why I can't have them both and the dude gets pissed and storms off. Later, I rail the alien chick. Oh, I'm also playing as a girl. This game is fucking hilarious. Also, I just beat it earlier today and it's fucking A-MAZING. Buy this fucking game. Buy a 360 for this fucking game. It's that good. I shit you not. I'm stoked to play through it a second time as the default character and playing mister nice guy.
okay, im 12hrs in the game and im only level 12?? 12 out of 60!??! WTF. these side quests are really taking up my time, i love them but damn! i also killed the mother, and im at liaras dig site now, wondering if thats gonna have repercussions on the game storyline. 12hrs in and i still havent fucked a female alien or whoever, i got my charm maxed out
i'm like 17 hours in and i haven't fucked her yet, but i'm wearing her down. we've established that she wants me, i just have to convince her that she's ready to bone. or meld. or whatever. the quests are ok, they are all fundamentally the same, though. go down to a planet, find some junk, take of the guns/guys guarding the base, go into the base and kill the guys. oh, and all the bases are just 3 different types of base. gets kind of meh after awhile, but doesn't really suprise me since bioware did the same thing with the kotor games. the main story is still great, though. what class did everyone make their guy? what squad did you use? my guy's an infiltrator (weapons and tech, uses sniper rifles) and i'm using tali and liara. works out really well, especially on the missions where you fight the geth since i'm a little tech heavy. sure, i don't have any heavy armor/weapons guys, but in term of fire power the sniper and tali's shot gun are more than enough.
It's kind of a surprise when she rails you. The last 10% of the game is easily the best. It's really amazingly well done. Edit: I'm also an Adept who uses a pistol all the time. I didn't use any powers until the last third of the game. I'm glad that when you beat the game you can go through it again with harder difficulty. I mean, I'm the "mage" class and I kick the shit out of everything with my pistol (280 dmg, +45% toxic dmg, 8 dmg for 5 seconds, +24%dmg, -20% overheating). If I were to have a complaint, it's that I rape everything with just a pistol. Even still, I love the combat. It's so much fun. Also, make sure you get to the higher levels; the weapons upgrades get freakin' cool around level 45 or so. I'm using Wrex and Garrus as my squadmates. FYI: Getting some achievements unlock things in the game. Ex: the "Rich" achievement (1 million credits plus) unlocks the badass Spectre weapons for sale on the Normandy. I have 4 million credits now. It's an easy one to get and the payoff is great. Other ones do different things.
yea, i picked up the specter weapons pretty early on, they are really nice but kind of take the fun out of finding new weapons as they don't compare to the specter weapons i've had for the last 20 or so levels. what difficulty did you play it on? i found the benezia boss fight very challenging, i had to exhaust all my skills and it still took me a few tries. i'm playing on normal, i have the pistol you are using with a slightly different set up and have found it to be amazingly powerful, my sniper works much better, one shot kills on everyone except the heavy geth and krogans.
Yeah, I'm an Adept, so the only thing I can train on is the pistol. I haven't used any other gun even once. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty on the first time through (Ithink you unlock harder difficulties after the first playthrough). Benezia took me a few tries too. In the end it's just a sequence you have to be prepared for. If you can get to the back right corner, you have it covered. It really sucks that the most cash you can have is 9,999,999. I found that to be kind of old school.
I played through twice now with my Vanguard (adept and soldier hybrid). The first time through I did about every side quest, second time I did almost none. I'm at level 58 or 59 now. Destroying everything with the shotgun is a blast. And you don't get sex until right before the last mission. Side boob ftw
I think I might have murdered most of my potential love slaves. Or ws a dick to them. Anyhoo, I just beat it and uh, yeah I went renegade and well: Spoiler I killed the council and humans took over, Wrex didn't die, Sarren shot himself (do you fight him on the green goblin thing if you don't do that?), and some other stuff. I doubt I'll replay it until mass effect 2 comes out in like 3 years :X. Really good, though. I got fucked on achievements. I got the shotgun one but it somehow didn't unlock in the end, and I also had Wrex from every mission since I got him and I didn't get the Krogan achievement :[
Same shit happened to me. I didn't Spoiler kill Wrex and I had Garrus with him the whole game. No achievement, even when I went back and got the actual completionist achievement. BTW, beating the game doesn't automatically give you the completionist achievement; you have to actually beat the majority of the game. Visit all those systems and blow shit up.
