Ancient Aliens Paranatural Real Housewives Of New Jersey Kate Plus 8 ... Honestly, I have paired down channels so that I only see ones that I like. Or at least used to. And there's not a god damned thing on that I would actually care to watch.
Awful. Pretty much the only thing I watch on TV these days is the crappy morning news to get the weather and whatnot, and maybe the News Hour on PBS.
The most horrific thing about this bullshit is a) these are channels that used to be quality programming, b) it's 50% commercials, and c) I actually pay for it.
Perhaps something like this would be better for you? http://www.pcworld.com/article/200750/apple_tv_to_stream_99_cent_shows_sources_say.html
NatGeo has been getting a lot of my Science Channel time lately. Discovery has had a few new survival shows that man vs. Wild and Survivorman totally to shame. NatGeo has some decent space stuff on it lately, like the new show with Brian Cox. other than that, I don't have time for most of the crap and I usually record the shows I like and ffw through the commercials. But i agree mostly with what you say. Broadcast television is becoming a dead hog. Look for some tricky BS marketting scams coming in the near future. It'll be the last gasp of a dying hasbeen. I propose that to make the commercials most watchable, all the females be topless. I may tend to watch more TV....................just a suggestion.
I have basic cable (the crappiest channel lineup EVAR) just so I can get a discount. The only shows I watch are Jeopardy! and maybe AFV. The rest of my needs are fulfilled through Netflix and Hulu using PlayOn.
I've already got the Western Digital equivalent, the WD-TV Live Plus. 95% of the time that's what I watch. I swear if it weren't for the wife and kids I'd get rid of cable entirely.
And this is a trend. A trend that is predicted, planned for and taken in concideration. This is why we're having advertising on metacafe', Youtube, and all network tv sites. Netflix will start sending advertising with DVD's and with online selections if they haven't already. The advertising and commercialization of media is a monster that demands to be fed.
glad you guys suffer the same as us over here. lol what's that springstein track: "57 channels and nothing to watch." same shit, different day
When Netflix starts running ads I'll stop using it. At least for streaming. The vast majority of what I watch now is on DVDs they ship me - no commercials.
Mad Men, Fringe, Breaking Bad, Louie, Rescue Me, Spartacus, plus any of a number of HBO or Showtime series. You people aren't looking hard enough. Especially compared to the tired retreads Hollywood's been churning out the last few years, this is, according to WIRED magazine, the Second Golden Age of Television. I mean, FFS, Reelz Channel has even been showing re-runs of NewsRadio!
But who wants to pay on top of paying for TV. There's too many alternatives. But sooner or later commerce will follow to where the eyes are.
Heh, I never said it was cheap-- just that there's a lot of quality programming right now. Ten years or so ago I called my TV "the night-light that made noise" but not any more. I've only had a bigscreen TV, HD, and DVR for about a year now, so this stuff is still awesome to me.
