For anyone that's pre-ordered, the demo is available, and it's fantastic. I've already played it for several hours, which is pretty crazy considering it's only a 2 level demo.

I've got it chillling on my 360 waiting to be played. Someone over on TL was dishing out codes so I could get it early :D

    Will report back soon!

Edit - This game is awesome! So intense, the zombies are relentless and just keep coming! Has anyone managed to find the witch? I could hear her crying but couldn't find her anywhere!

Got to agree, just tried it online and it was really really good, even though I just joined a random server and had no idea who the other 3 players were. The number of zombies they can get onscreen at one time is quite impressive.

She usually seems to be in the subway section between the carriages somewhere. I accidentally shot her on my first time through :)

I dunno about other settings since I've basically only been playing Expert, but she kills you in 1 hit if you startle her. It's best to avoid her whenever possible.

How is it on the 360? I can't imagine this game w/o a mouse, but I'm guessing the matchmaking through live probably works a million times better.

I would guess its going to stay like that, since you don't seem to find much ammo outside of the safe rooms. It'd be really easy to run out of ammo completely if you don't have the pistols to fall back on.

It does that on Normal as well. I think it also triggers a zombie rush at the same time.

It's great on the 360. I haven't got the PC demo to compare but I'm happy with it :)

Found the witch! She was sat in the subway balling her eyes out. I was a bit sketchy around but then thought "fuck it!" and shone my torch in her face :D

Jeez she goes mad! Bit like The Jackal in 13 Ghosts. Didn't kill me but put me on the floor while the others finished her off. I was only on normal though.

Gah I can't wait for this game!

It'll probably clear up later in the day. If you have trouble with matchmaking on the PC, enable the console and type "openserverbrowser". That'll give you the browser list like TF2 or CSS. Some of those servers have admins that will spawn extra bosses too. I've joined a few that had 2 tanks at the same time.

No issues here, but just press F5 if you want to take screen shots in game.

i dont think im going to buy this game

    - graphics are below par hl2
    - not scary in least bit
    - zombies move like watching a vhs tape fast forwarded monkeys jumping around, doesnt look right at all.
    - the whole game is jerk and shoot, theres really no tactics period
    - ammo piles? wat. i expected hl2 styled ammo littered about here and there.
    - i read the single player is about an hour per "movie/chapter" and i can see how that can be true, it doesnt take but about 5 minutes for each section.
    - the stupid arrows and symbols popping up when items are around
    - pov in game settings give me a headache

the only good thing i see in this is the large levels. but most of that will be skipped by most trying to run and gun. or group and gun.
imma have to play the demo again to get a better feel, but im not impressed. I never played counterstrike or tf2 so if any of these aspects of the game mimic those, than i cant relate.

I don't think the intent was scary, rather suspense.
The game is also more about sticking together for a fun co-op experience online. If you were expecting a single player game with a story and all that I think you're looking for RE5, not L4D. This game is basically Serious Sam with zombies and a lot more teamwork required. I love it, but I can see why others don't.

BTW, are you playing the 360 or PC version? The game looks worlds better than HL2, but I'm playing on the PC maxed out. The zombie animations are fantastic also, they crawl through holes and climb fences without ever looking awkward.

The game is OK. I'll have to play it more for a better opinion, but I wasn't in awe, that's for sure.

The lighting system now in the Source engine (and in this game) -- WOW!

    360.

the icons get in the way and distract me from all the visuals, very fucking annoying.
the animations on the 360 are not fluid at all, its almost like they teleport from one spot to another, if anyones played blood thats how the enemies move around.

your own movement is like gliding around, theres no feel of weight or bobbing from what ive noticed, like playing wolfenstein or something

sticking together is really not that cracked up to be because once you're swarmed you begin shooting frantically at enemies and your own people because everyone's bunched up getting trampled on

im going to assume graphics are alot better on pc..
but seeing as this isnt a huge huge game like orange box, i was expecting better textures and lighting. this is kinda piss poor.

oh! and bill = rumsfield from the burbs

Played the demo earlier (got it from Steam). I have a huge, irrational fear of zombies, so every time a massive swarm comes, I freak out.

Fun game though, only played single player (don't know if you can do co-op in demo).

I finally played co-op on the demo. A lot more fun having ppl willing to walk through doors before you do. Turning the corner and having a zombie right in my face freaks me out, and having a hunter pounce on somebody else and then saving them. Well...much more fun!

most of your complaints are valid, but i take issue with this one. maybe it's different on the 360, but the movement feels just the same as hl2 or tf2...did you have gripes with the movement in those games, too?

Holy crap, this game is incredible. I'll be buying this for sure.

And I second the comment about the number of characters the engine allows on-screen simultaneously. On my laptop I'm running at my 22"'s native resolution of 1680x and it's smooth as silk, no frame drops at all.

So where did you end up buying it? I'm such a cheap bastard, I really hate paying even close to retail.
