I turned my 360 on after not playing for a few months and I was prompted for an update. Updated then the screen went black and I got the red rings of death. What a piece of shit. I have like 40 360 games and there's still no way I'm buying a 3rd fucking system. Does MS still repair this crap for free? I am going to chuck it off a fucking cliff.
Try calling them and tell them how many games you've got and that it's your 3rd system etc. When mine RRoD'd I switched up to a black Elite at Best Buy, then sold it for a PS3. I know you've got one already...
Not talking smack about the people that bought them, as I bought one myself, but that's bs. If I buy anything electronic and as widespread as the PS3 or XBOX, drop $300+, I expect it to work down the road. What gets me is MS knows this and if you call them and address the issue ,they are so defensive about it (having you do checks or what not). I used to have the OG intellimouse Exploer and it crapped out. All I had to do was call them and they sent me a BRAND NEW ONE. Not the case with XBOX systems, you get a refurbished one. That's BS.
As many are probably RRoDing I think it's the only option. They can't manufacturer those things out of thin air, and millions must have been bricked. The mouse thing.. well shit they probably have a couple dozen failures of those a month. I thought MS extended the warranty and was way more lenient about replacing these things nowadays.
Nah its a refurbished one and it's a flip-of-the coin if its any better (sometimes worse). Sure you can send it back in again but its a worthless process.... I have yet to get a good replacement for my son's 360... that's just sad.
My refurb has been going strong for... two and a half years or so; it's my sister's now. My current one (Christmas 2008) is fine too. You have shit luck, and if you explain things to them I'm sure you'll get another one for free. You have to understand, they rushed this shitbrick out the door to beat the PS3 and have spent well over a billion dollars repairing/replacing it. If you like games (and it sounds like you do w/40 of them), suck it up like I have four times and get a FREE replacement (my average wait time has been around a week, week and a half after I sent the coffin out). hth
My refurb has worked great for two years but I had to send it in twice for RROD. This time it's been great but my wait time was a shit ton longer. I think I waited 5 weeks from when I shipped it until I got it back.
Maybe a massive lawsuit would get MS to get their act together? I have a 360 but I don't play it as often as you guys. Mine is a Core from early 2007 late 2006.
If I remember, they HAD a massive lawsuit. The warranty extension and return policy are in part a response to that.
Well that sucks. Instead of fixing the problem they just continue to produce sub-par consoles and fixing them when they break.
im pretty sure ms is still repairing RRODs, but you have to ship it with your own box. call them and ask, its a simple telling them of your serial number and they'll let you know if its still under that RROD warranty. if its not, then crack it open and do the RROD repair. a couple nuts and bolts from homedepot/lowes and youre good to go. ive repaired one already successfully for a friend. this RROD and etc problems have been fixed already.. the new core and elite models should have the latest rev of board components and PSU lower wattage ratings.
It's pretty sad when more than 50% of people have had console malfunctions. I don't care how any fanboy tries to spin it, it's fucking pathetic. I'm in the RROD group, too. Luckily my 2nd one is holding out, even though it gave me the E74 error or whatever. It really is shitty design/quality/manufacturing. I try to put that aside when I use it though.
Indeed, I have the new core system with the new mobo and heatsinks, and my console never gets hot. The problem with RRoDs is they the CPU and GPU or soldered on and when they over heat the solder melts causing it to loose contact. Edit: and all you have to do to keep your console from overheating is, 1. Spray it out with compressed air once a month 2. Install the games you play most to the harddrive so the dvd-rom doesnt have to spin You do the same shit with your pc
Search your local Craigslist's, you can get it modded and fixed for 50 bucks. better then dishing 150 our for a brand new one
I've never had a 360 RR. I had a DVD drive fail, and at one point I wasn't getting video signal, but it's never given me the RRoD.
No RROD yet. But you have to really whack the side of my 360 to get the tray to open. It ate our neighbors copy of COD4 this way D:
If the PS3 had the games the 360 has, I'd jump ship in a heartbeat. It really is a bunch of bullshit. ... hell, if I could get used to the PS3 controller I'd probably jump ship.
I went from the OG XBOX controller to the PS3 controller. It took me about 2 hours to get used to it. The layout is similar... not anything drastic.
This. The only game I ever bought for the PS3 was GTA4, and that was a stupid decision since the 360 got all the new content.
The triggers are too sensitive and the joysticks ain't right and it's too small *wheeze* ... and idc about bluray yet so it just ain't for me.
i love the 360 controller over the ps3. its like holding a melted baby, so soft. yea if the ps3 had more awesome exclusive titles i wouldve been a fanboy long time ago. instead its really nothing special.
