words cant descriiiibbee! this last boss battle.. in what i thought couldve easily been the end of the game about 3 times now.. i finally made it to what appears to be the final monster.. and that scene sequence is the shit!! it will have you like "oh my fuckin.."

hard as fuck though, im on my 3rd try and i just had to put the controller down for a while because its too intense.

Bought the PC version today and played the first few chapters. It looks fantastic with all the details turned up, and I really like the holographic HUD thing. The zero gravity bits are pretty well done, and being able to shoot limbs off the enemies is nice too.

However....this game would have been far better as an FPS. Maybe it's different on the consoles, I don't know, but on a PC the 3rd person thing just doesn't work very well. It's like watching a film over the shoulder of a person in front of you. Sure, you can do it, but why the hell would you want to when you could have an unobstructed view?

Also, I don't know how they managed to screw up something as simple as mouselook so badly. I turned the sensitivity right up and it still takes several full drags right across my mouse mat to turn around, especially in "aiming" mode when it seems to drop the sensitivity even further automatically. I'm getting sick of things jumping on me simply because I can't aim at them in time :|

yes, the hud, menu systems, incoming videos, are simply amazing. theyre like 3-4 layer images sandwiched and adds a nice effect visually.

lots of save points, and i like that.

yea it wouldve been better in first person but that wouldve introduced a real, classic, hud.

no shit about the aiming sensitivity.. imagine how bad it is for us consoles we cant change the speed at all.. im guessing that was part of the plan to get you killed more often because of slow turn around.

This game is THE SHIT. Finished it last weekend and easily the second best game I've played this year (sorry kiddies, I've already finished Gears 2 :p).

Fallout 3 has me too occupied, so I almost don't mind having the money to throw at Gears 2.

I think it's a game that could have been a real classic, but they didn't quite put enough effort into it. I just finished it, and while the graphics are truly stunning at times (the last boss fight for example), what it reminded me of most was the "Flood" parts of Halo. Particularly the endless streams of mindless enemies and reuse of levels you've already seen. So many levels were just a variation of "Get off tram. Find object x, pull switch y. Return to tram."

There were a bunch of annoying things that would have been easy to fix. Mouselook. Not being able to jump. Allowing you to see how much total ammo you have for a weapon without opening your inventory (can't count how many times I had to change weapon mid-fight because I had no idea I was about to run out). First person view, at least as an option (Jedi Knight: DF 2 did this perfectly, years ago). The "Kinesis" module was a bit ridiculous when you had to use it to pull a switch on the wall in front of you. Not being able to run in sections with the alien growth on the floor. Being able to look further up/down in "aiming" mode than in normal movement mode. And so on...
