Ok, I really just want to vent and get an opinion on the problem my sister had with her Subaru imprezza. Its a 2009 Subaru impreza base model with 32,000 miles on it. Last week her AC died out, so she bought it to the local dealer.

They told her the AC system needed to be recharged, so she let them do it and charge her for it. I forget the amount she paid but, the technician diagnosing the problem really pissed me off. New cars less then 2 years old do not loose all of their refrigerant without there being some kind of problem. I explained this to the manager and told him that his technician should have looked into a possible leak.
Then the manager gave me some bs story about how the refrigerant will evaporate over time if the car is left outside. I told him he didn't know what he was talking to and asked to speak to the shop foreman. I was then put on hold and gave up after 15 minutes.

Week later, same thing AC died, she took it back to the dealer and they looked at it for a couple of days. They determined the evaporator core was leaking. Sounds right to me, I replace evaporator cores all the time at work. New Car? Warranty right? Nope, they said it was not covered under warranty, because A. she didn't buy the Subaru from this dealer, and B She didn't have the 30,000 mile AC service done! I just couldn't win with the service manager, I told him there was no way an evaporator core goes bad that fast on a car that is only 2 years old. Just kept putting me on hold, they gave me one of the interns to talk to who only knew how to do oil changes...

Yes, don't waste time with an obvious shyster outfit. The deal is, the dealer is scamming the manufacturer by creating a situation where they get to charge for multiple
repairs for the same thing. Subaru will take an interest in this. Subaru will also want to uphold thier reputaion by sanctions against the dealer. the dealer is a franchise, subaru can't
fire them or anything. what they will do is hit them in the pocketbook through pricepoints.

As others of said, call Subaru America or whatever the equivalent to Honda America is for Subaru. They will get the job done without hassle.

After multiple attempts I got the owner of the dealership on the phone, I explained to him I was willing to call high up representatives of subaru and he told me he would see what he could do. 2 Hours later the manager called me back and said they were going to replace the AC/Condenser free of charge, as well as refund us for charging the system earlier. Plus a free car wash!
