Obama is half black, and very wealthy. He's got lukewarm support from the black community as a result, and will not appeal widely with white folks because of latent racism and some poor maneuvering on his part. I wouldn't get my hopes too high frankly.
I wouldn't worry about it, obama doesn't plan to end the war, he plans to end the war in Iraq only but is very committed to going after bin laden in Afghanistan.
i'm voting Obama even if only for the words of energy policy. i haven't heard much from Mcain about the energy, which by the way, is what the next world war will be fought over imo. personally, i don't give two shitz about what color the guy has in his tree. he just seems more into changing a few key elements. I seriously do not plan to see any form of real change, but it's nice to know one of the candidates aknowledges the need for a few changes.
Yes, of the two African-American figures referenced in my post, Obama is the one who is an icon of the Civil Rights Movement. You and I have very different opinions of very wealthy. The man is well off and arguably in some circles "wealthy" but he is hardly in the "very wealthy" category.
Exactly. Wealth is relative, to you msp he's wealthy (to me too) but to those in power he is upper middle class.
No. He is not an icon of the civil rights movement. I still don't know why you think that. Just because you've said it twice doesn't make it so.
I don't even understand the point of this whole argument. Who's about in office is who it will be. One or the other or the other....It doesn't matter in that late in the game. It has to start early and way early before there candidates get infected with political and industrial views. I dunno if even its possible to vote someone in that is a proven good stand-up American anymore. It's a sad day we live in.
Does too! *edit* Just saw this as Google's QOTD, and believe it is at least noteworthy in this thread. The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. - Ronald Reagan
^^^holy shit.....I like this guy.^^^ Probably the truest statement of this political debate type thread. Booger, you should have been around four years ago. It was glorious in the ways of flame war type stuff.
It does matter because "We the People" have spoken! It's "We" who are in charge and "We" are the only ones who control our destiny in Washington and the world! We choose our presidents and that president does our bidding or we will get rid of them and get one who will. Wow, that sounded so good I almost believed it. LOL
Yeah if that was true, Nancy Pelosi wouldn't have chosen to take a 5 week vacation to promote her book that's in the shitter. Instead of adjouning, congress would have at least voted on an energy bill. Wouldn't have made an immediate impact but at least got the ball rolling.
