Been a long time coming. Oh yeah, no beer either. If I do drink it'll just be vodka and cranberry.... bye bye beer gut.
right on my man! Wish I could, but I really don't want to yet. I have dropped my consumption to 12/day(cigs).
Congats Lurker! Looks like most of T3D is growing up and killing their personal vices latey! That is NOT an easy thing to do, I give you props for that. I have a friend who quits a few times a year and when times get tough, he starts up again
Trying to trounce two vices at the same time will lower you chances of success. But good luck! I still smoke now and then, a cigarette or two. As long as you're not constantly irritating the throat and lungs and inhaling carcinogens it's really not a big deal. Every time you drive in traffic you inhale a cigarette or two of carcinogens from the nearby cars.
Not that I'm trying to preach or anything but I found this on Googlez: To be honest, this is sourced from anti-smoking propaganda and I'm not sure if it's 100% factual. I think about smokers every time I'm sitting in traffic on my motorbike and there's a huge diesel next to me blowing black smoke at me. What's the difference really? But I suppose the concentration of toxins from smoking are much greater than if I'm breathing in a bit of stinky diesel.
AWESOME!! now you can join in on the anti-smoking rants and threads and not be offended. now all we gotta do is convert whiskas and we're set!!
Congrats! Stay with it man.. I try to get the wife to quit smoking, even pointed out to her it would save about a grand each year. But she's pretty hard headed sometimes...
To add to Dustin's post, let's investigate another vice and it's dangers. (note: this is not heavy drinking here) http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/ModerateDrinking-03.htm
Yeah, be careful quitting two things at once. You're not quitting drinking altogether so this advice may not even apply-- but just in case . . . When I quit drinking way back when, wifey suggested I go ahead and quit smokes, too, while I was at it. With an ashen face I stuttered around and finally said I would ask my counselor about it the next session I had. So, I asked him. With an ashen face and eyes as big as saucers, he gasped, "Fuck no! It's too much at one time! Let's just focus on the booze for now."
Good job man. I smoked for a year of my life, now I can't stand the taste or idea of them. I've heard how hard it was to quit for some people but for me it was very easy. I just decided I didn't like them one day and stopped cold turkey. No withdrawl symptoms for me.
BTW, I did quit smoking three years ago. For me the patch helped a lot. I never had any of the weird dreams people talk about, though. Darn it.
Thanks for the support guys. Like Jake, I just became sick and tired of it. Also, as far as quitting drinking beer and smoking at the same time applies... I really only smoke when I drink (go out). So I figure I'd stop drinking alot aswell. If I need to have a social drink, one or two vodka-crans is the limit.
gg lurker...and gl. I have quit smoking a couple of times, but failed. I have, however..made it more difficult on myself. ie: going outside in the subzero temps to smoke, etc. surprise..I only buy 2 packs a week. hilarious..i hate the smell, so I fanatically brush my teeth and tongue after each cigarette. as far as 'other vices'..everything in moderation.
Thanks. The cravings are pretty much non-existant as of day 2. If I can make it a couple more days, I'm home free...
Grats lurker. I've been debating about quitting smoking recently. Just hope that when I do I can come here to tweak and see yours (and others) success stories to help me along.
