Holy fuck, has anybody seen the National Press Club speech by Wright from earlier today? Embarrassing shit. There were a bunch of talking heads on CNN talking about it, and even the black people were backing away from him.
I saw parts of it... did I miss a bombshell? Everything I saw was pretty much him giving straight answers but not without a fair share of sarcasm. Nothing major.
Cnn does or did have a poll and it said 65% of people thought wrights new comments hurt obama. I guess a lot of Americans can't handle the truth.
He pretty much just says whatever comes to mind, just speaking freely even if its not very politically correct. I say he fucking rides his 15minutes of fame and takes advantage of it. Poor Obama tho
It was a casual q&a session. Is he riding his 15 minutes? Sure, but it's more the press' fault than his. He has very valid points though. The only one I could find was via googling "National Press Club" and was on ABC.
Truth? The guy is still standing by his comments that the government introduced AIDS and crack to keep the black man down. He still supports Louis Farrakhan. He's a fucking wacko, I can't believe how many people are still supporting him. Sure, there is a lot of truth in what he says, but it doesn't mitigate the other stuff.
There's an old ploy that goes like this: "Inject just enough truth, to lend credibility to the outrageous". Our government uses that tool all the time.
I think when I saw him questioned about it yesterday his response was something along the lines of 'Having seen the terrorist-like acts that the US govt is known to have commited do I believe the aids thing is possible? Yes I believe it's entirely possible." Perhaps this is him just softening his opinions for the camera, or perhaps he really hasn't concluded anything on the matter after all. Clearly the guy is, at times, letting his emotions get the better of objective deliberation. I'm so used to seeing politicians tergiversate, that this guy is kind of refreshing (not that I agree with his opinions). In the end he's only speaking for himself.
Damage control time! Probably too late, he should have said this in the very beginning. Obama 'outraged' by Wright's remarks - CNN.com
Obama 'outraged' by remarks. lol. Those ' ' sure have a sarcastic feel to them. More like a fill in the blank, than an actual quotation. Some CNN writer adding in a subtle zinger maybe.
No matter what people think about Wrights comments, anyone with some sense in them should realize OBAMAS POLICIES are more important than his pastor. Oh, wait.... this story is still going. Guess not. I actually heard some guy on Fox News yesterday say "someones character is more important than his policies." Fucking absurd, even if Obama was the perfect candidate (which he is not) nothing is more important than these petty issues of distraction? Hopeless man, hopeless.
Yes, yes. Only senseless people are disturbed and turned off by the Wright connection. Polls show TENS OF MILLIONS of people are disturbed by Obama's 20+ year association with this wacko, and yet you somehow have more sense because you really "get" it... Even Obama himself has admitted it's a legitimate issue, and for that I give him credit. He's not a fool. If this were happening to McCain or Bush you would be all over them. And I would join you! People are judged by their character, by their policies, and also by the company they keep. And Wright is turning out to be very, very bad company.
This is some of the best political drama ever! I think Rev. Wright is the best thing to happen in a long time never a dull moment. With most of American being offended we might even have a good ol' lynchin soon. WHOOHOO!!!!
McCain does, and I've mentioned it before, but I'm more concerned with how his policies will hurt America than who he is associated with. Does Obama believe the government spread AIDS to blacks? Does he believe the government invented crack cocaine to kill blacks? Does he get up and scream God damn America? No. No. No. Even you can admit that.
It has happened to Bush, his ties to the Evangelical movement arguably helped get him elected. I don't see you or the public decrying their hate speech towards homosexuals and campaigns against the right to choose. But if a leader of a minority church dares to point out that America has a less than polished history of dealing with its own people AND foreign affairs suddenly it's the end of the world.
Well yah, the White Man is sacred. So is the American government. Unless its under the Democratic party...
I take back what I said about wright, he really is no different than any other man of the cloth. Capable of great things yet blinded by his/their own greatness. He preaches the same kind of hate that the jerry Falwell's preach (however not with the same amount bluntness).
My only problem with Wright is he was born into privilege, his dad a very prominent (and rich) pastor. He did his time in the Marines where he probably got a good dose of racism but most of his experiences are second hand.
One thing is definately for sure: Any politician, will say/do whatever it takes to get elected, reguardless of what thier own views are.
I've been waiting for someone to show me something that McCain's pastor said that came even remotely close to Wright, and I'm still waiting. What I've heard / read is pretty tame compared to, I don't know, repeatedly accusing the US government of spreading AIDS and crack to cause the genocide of African Americans! The comparison is thin at best. And no, I don't believe that Obama believes those things necessarily. But after 20 years of listening to Wright it's hard to believe he doesn't share some of them. Even Obama admits the association with Wright is damning. You're either being extremely stubborn or your hatred for the Republicans has blinded you. But anyway, this is all academic at this point. Did anyone actually watch Obama deliver his speech damning Wright? He was very visibly disturbed, stumbling on his words, etc. The continued focus on this story in the media has damaged his campaign pretty badly. Polls are showing now that Clinton has a better shot against McCain in November, which will help to sway or delay the remaining super delegates. What a mess.
