Just curious. I found out about this site from Bear (AKA: Reaver at the time). A few things I remember when I first joined: - Jamsan and Integra00 had a love affair??? - Torx and Srubs still going at it - Communor always getting flamed - Tommygun_Angel always telling everyone to STFU
I discovered Tweak when I was overclocking my old AMD K6-2 300 with the Radeon 7200 video card. Ohhh, those were the days...... ~Will Courtier~
I know we have had this thread many times, and I am pretty sure I rememberd on those occasions, but I can't recall right now. *looks at almost empty bottle of wine to my left* I think a friend was on it first? Back when I was in 8th grade?
I googled "how to clean a ceramic pipe" and I think t3d was the second link I clicked. I think sims answered the question.
I came here for the tweaking articles and stayed for the forum. I had just gotten into computers and this was the first forum I found and it had a lot of good info on it. This was back in 2000
I was looking for a guide on how to tweak my TNT2 card and the general PC tweaking guides really grabbed my interest. I didn't start posting until '03. I was 13 years old at the time. Most everyone else here was in high school. Look at us now.
Ahhhh. yeh I've kind of noticed that. I read about people being here since 2000 and stuff and I always read under their names, their join date...never adds up....I guess this thread will tell me otherwise
january 2000 I was looking up how to overclock my p90 and some crappy ati onboard card, just for fun. turns out it wouldnt have been even close to worth it.
At the beginning of 1998 I was taking a computer repair class in high school (I knew nothing about PCs at the time really) and had an "internship", meaning I worked for free at a local PC place called Cougar Valley Computers. I only went there a few hours each week. Anyway, they gave me parts at cost, so I bought a P2 266 and a Riva 128 (the Diamond V330) after reading online they were now supporting OpenGL ... which meant I could play Quake in 3D accelerated mode. I found RivaZone, and reading the forums there learned a bit about tweaking Quake (and Quake II I believe) to run properly. I would email the NVIDIA driver developers asking for tips on things and felt like I was part of the process creating the Riva 128. I tinkered with gamma and different parameters until it looked right (bright enough was the big problem, without being washed out) and fast enough. I published it on my ISP's page, and had like 40,000 people read the article (it made VoodooExtreme's front page, RivaZone etc.). RivaZone gave me my own subforum, and when it started getting popular I figured I should share all my tips on tweaking PCs so I created Tweak3D. Originally called it DanTech, but AnandTech was starting to get popular so I knew I should change my name, as he was covering a lot more stuff and I'd look like a poser. I eventually spread this to TNTs, GeForce etc. but it became irrelevant eventually. I had always had crappy computers till my P2 266. I had a Cyrix "P166" when Pentium IIs came out. I had a 386 SX25 when my friends had Pentium 133s. That was my first PC. But I wanted to play SNES/NES emulators, so I learned a lot about tweaking with settings and killing extra processes to squeeze a frame rate here or there. When I started Tweak3D.Net, I had no plans to make it into a job, and nearly a year later I still hadn't made money from it or anything, but I started getting free hardware by the boatload (huge boxes of 3dfx and NVIDIA video cards), then eventually ad revenue. I almost didn't go to college to pursue the web site full time, but I was a high school student when I started and despite a few side jobs because of the site, stuck it out. It was my only job until I was 24 years old, even though I ran it into the ground at a few points and the dot-com crash etc ruined me.
I think it was APC magazine that had it in a list of websites of the month or something for the articles.
~2000 Trying to O/C my Gateway P3 600, I didn't post in off topic until 2-3 years later. I was never claimed as anyone's bitch, therefore I claim myself.
