So, I got an e-mail the other day asking if I would be interested in joining the Explorer program for the Google Glass. Worst part is that I would have to "buy" into the program, at a cost of $1500. But, they are cool as shit! Check out their site to see what they are capable of: http://glass.google.com I want them to play with, but I'm trying to justify the cost... I could swing it after this deployment, but that's still a lot of change to fork over for a toy. I'm also trying to think about realistic uses for it and how I could benefit it's development. Any thoughts? Would you guys think it's a somewhat reasonable purchase? ~Will Courtier~
Nope. I personally think they are cool, but at the same time I think they are the biggest invasion of privacy that mankind has come up with. Just another step towards the collective.
They were supposed to start mass production the middle of last year. But, they are still testing. Supposedly, they are talking about giving the beta testers the commercial version after it is released as a thanks.
Having to opt-in for 1500 samolians doesn't make it a free item imho. this+this=that http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/innovation/how-google-glass-redefining-tech-etiquette-n35431 + http://news.msn.com/science-technol...for-gold-in-big-data-despite-privacy-concerns = http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181689/ Drama? perhaps. But the laws of unintended consequences suck balls nonetheless.
I used one, it was not very impressive or amazing to be honest. I'd rather buy an Oculus Rift if you want a cool toy to try and save the $1200 leftover.
Can you believe that google is actually lobbying against states enacting legislation banning wearing glass while driving? http://news.msn.com/science-technology/google-sets-roadblocks-to-stop-distracted-driver-legislation
Truth. I see people wearing google glass almost daily and have tried one on. It's clunky... weird.. and everyone hates you. Seriously. You'll get the worst looks from people while wearing it.
