Don't worry about it. A deal will be passed, taxes will be lowered, and the tax rate will be made retro active.

Do you want to guess who hasn't been willing to sign a tax bill that permanently lowers the taxes on the middle class (since April I believe) in order to keep taxes on the 2% from going up?

Hooray! Those fuck asses couldn't figure out how to cut spending to reasonable limits and live within a realistic budget, and now we have to bear the brunt of their financial irresponsibility.

I wouldn't put it past the House to run us over the cliff almost by accident, as Boehner proves once again that he can't count votes properly... Speakers used to be able to control fractious members by burying them under a pile of pork. Now that we have removed the pork, the members are free to be stubborn as pigs. :)

At most, I'm expecting an epic volley of can-kicking down a long and winding road.

I'm betting we'll go over the cliff... and then Republicans can do what the President wants, and claim they're lowering taxes instead of raising them. Sophistry for the win...:p
    Sparky says thanks for this.

It's all a numbers game. While we're watching the assault on the 2nd amendment the tax cliff isn't as important.
I contend that if we do go over the cliff, it will be accidentally on purpose. Either way, China and the other holders of US debt will
feel a little better until they realize that the bottom line doesn't match up to the numbers presented. Remember that national debt ceiling can? Now
there are going to be two cans to kick. The guv-man wants your guns so you can only get pissed with words when we drop back into another deep recesion.
I'll turn the rhetoric around. The man states that it is intollerable to have so many mass shootings. I think it is even more intollerable for there to be so many recesions.
When will people realize that we're all being played/duped/bilked etc?

I hope we don't go over the cliff, but the though of the Pentagon having their budget cut 10% overnight sounds pretty appealing. :)

It'll happen. The way it's coming down, no one side of the isle takes all the blame. Both dems and repubs will be blamed equally.

It'll be another kick of the can at best, higher taxes, lost jobs and global economic hardship at worst. I'm ready.

I understand the lower guys getting the raise (its still not going to come close to covering inflation, its averaging <1%,) but the reps & executives getting it is bullshit. They're not far off on compromise at this point, both sides need to suck it up and get it done, its pathetic that they're playing so close to the edge so they can blame each other... (and then getting raises on top of it)

Can't remember the democratic senator's name offhand, but his quote was basically that its dad that currently the greatest threat to the American people is the American Congress.

Well, we've technically fallen off the cliff, and are now holding onto a rocky outcropping by the tips of our greasy fingers. Senate has passed a small can-kick bill to the House, which is threatening to amend (kill) it, after which we will have truly fallen off the cliff for real. Yay. whataya say that, while they are in session, we should lock all the exits and just burn the place down? THAT should trip the HSA al gore rhythm! ;)

Whatever happens will happen. The beast has gotten too big to fight. The only way to weaken it is to stop feeding it.
but..........................who's going to do that? Whatever comes out of washington will end up being unsustainable.
That's why we're in this mess.

Looks like I was wrong, taxes will be going up. The payroll tax cut expired and was not renewed. That's roughly a 3% tax increase or about $700 a year.

Corporations got some good stuff renewed though:|
