When AT&T billing goes nuts, you just about only have the option of killing your service with them. So we got our landline cut, after they jacked up our prices to ridiculous heights, so now we're on Cricket, with one smartphone for me, and a flip-phone for mom. I got a Pulsemix for just about free, but one bad cricket update later, and I paid too much for that free phone, as the battery drained down to nothing in 5 hours flat. On standby mode.

Lesson learned, I paid real money on an unlocked Nokia 6.1, and stuck my cricket SIM into that. I am liking this phone boatloads more than the pulsemix in just about every way. Camera is great (though the Nokia camera app is still a work in progress), and it's STELLAR, when you install one of those google-cam apks from the XDA forums. For my Nokia, the CStark27 Gcam 5.1.018 v 4.1 is generally the best choice, with Scrubber's latest coming in a close second. Check out this awesome bokeh mode portrait mode selfie, using the googlecam app. You'd never believe the actual pic was all in focus, more or less.

The Nokia app has a bokeh mode, but it fuzzes out my hair and makes me look like Telly Savalis. It's only drawback is that it only does 1080p videos max. For that, I think Opencamera is the winner.

Holy SHLEPP! Youtube absolutely BUTCHERED the quality of that video...

    Baaaa-men!

As a special joke, once the SIM was removed from the Pulsemix, the battery drain went back to normal. Cricket Software Update for the lose... At least I now have a simless... er... droidpod, for wi-fi connected email, web, and media player stuff.

My smartphone has picture editing capability right there on the phone. More of you, less of your ceiling. Just sayin' . . . :rofl2:

er... my ceiling was probably the most interesting part of that pic. My camera probably would benefit from a REVERSE bokeh effect! ;)

I heard that some were interested in Scrubbers GCam mod for the Nokia, but I tried it out, and it suxxored. For me, at least. Grainy grainy. The main problem is the HDR+ mode in low light situations. It creates something called "chromatic abberation", but which I call red and blue dots all over the place! I'm fiddling with the developer settings, and turning on camera.enable_hwhdr, ...enable_pd, ...enable_pd_blur, and camera.p3, have tamed this somewhat. In "experimental", I switched "use Hexagon DSP" from "auto" to "on", and, while slower, my camera doesn't crash anymore. Yay.

I have to say, in even semi well-lit areas, the quality of the pics this takes are awe-inspiring. Both the Nokia (crap) camera app and Open Camera (my favorite manual control go-to for total control and RAW capture) have noticable noise grain in the darker surfaces of their pics, but the google camera just absolutely exterminates the noise without hurting the details at all. If you have a smartphone and want more out of your camera (and your camera has full camera2 api support, and you have at least a Snapdragon 600 series or better processor, you might want to check the XDA developers gcam forums for a version of camera apk that is right for your phone.

Took some fall color pics, and some low light experiments. This camera with gcam mostly fails at low-light, with abundant red and blue speckles.

    Panorama works well though.
