OK, so my boardgame night buddies and I want to give DND a whirl next go around. Most of us (including me), don't really know what we're doing, but one of our friends does. So he asked us to make a character this month so we can play when we get together in February.

I basically spent last 2 days doing a lot of reading and researching, and in a way wish I had done this when I was younger. I always enjoyed video games like Warcraft, Final Fantasy, so all the XP and HP stuff I can follow OK. But doing in a board game setting seems like a win to me.

So far I've created a Cleric Hill Dwarf, who has a background in farming and whose parents and sister were killed in an accident (or was it...?). He was so distraught, that he turned to religion to deal with his pain, and his diety Marthamoor Duin came to him in a dream and told him he should go forth and defend his lands from evil. He also only has 11 Intelligence, so he's kind of a simple lad but with a big heart!

It's also a big excuse to get drunk with my friends, demand that they roll some dumb combination for a saving roll or take damage from the dragon in the form of Fireball shots. lol....

My best friend through middle/high school were family friends with the Carpenters family and they used to play D'n'D every Saturday. It was serious business lol. I played once and had some sort of wood elf character but lost interest. Seemed boring so I went back into his older brother's office (who was a Unix nerd in 1988 btw and while was not running dual monitors was running x terminals in his office. He had Quake set up for LAN and we had much more fun in there.

Cool man. Sounds like it's making a comeback

My KB gym teacher is also a video game designer and hosts a DnD event every 2 weeks, and has for the past 10 years or so. He has invited me and I'm really thinking i should give it a go. He's probably an awesome DM/GM whatever you call it. I tried it when I was a teenager and also tried Rifts which was cool.

Uh oh I just made a second character.

A high elf wizard, of noble background, hiding the fact that he's in a relationship with another man! Must keep alliances with the powerful houses you know... Scandal!! Oh and high fashion.
