I have been thinking about it for a while, but just haven't had a compelling reason yet. Is there something I am missing that would make me say, yes, I need one of those?

Blu Ray is seemingly winning the format war and you can download vids straight from stage6 to the ps3 hard drive which is nice. There are starting to be some nice games like ratchet and clank and uncharted is good too. The biggest problem is it still needs a library boost but it's coming along nicely now. By this time next year PS3 would probably be in a much better position if you can wait that long.

Included blu-ray is nice. They're starting to come out with some better titles and confirmed hits on the way. You've got Gran Turismo 5, MGS, Final Fantasy XIII & Versus. If you're able to, try and find yourself a first gen 60 or 20GB model as they include (almost) full compatibility with PS/PS2 games. The PSN also has a nice selection of unique titles: Stardust, flow, BlastFactor, PAIN.

Its got a good upcoming selection of eclectic games. If you like racing, it will have GT5, shooter/stealth - MGS, platform Ratchet and Clank, Adventure mix - Uncharted, RPG - FFXIII. Built in blu-ray is nice, and as it is Blu Ray players are pretty expensive. If you're willing to risk starting your next gen movie collection early, thats easily it's biggest selling point. Reliability is better than 360.

Other than that the library is pretty mediocre, and arguably the 360 already has all of those genres covered and then some. Oh yeah, and avoid the 40GB model as they decided to take out reverse compatability, which also knocks it down a few pegs as you'd have to keep your PS2 out as well.

If you've got the money to blow, and have faith in blu-ray format it wouldn't be a bad purchase.

Actually it seems the highdef DVD battle will soon be over...

Warner Bros. to use Blu-ray for DVDs - Yahoo! News

No Universal and Paramount are the only studios soley producing HD movies

All thigns considered, BR is the better disk, as it has greater capacity. 50gb vs. 30gb. This means that for multilanguage titles they have to release fewer different disks, say in Europe. Instead of releasing 5 different disks to cover all language tracks on HD, they can release 2 different language BR disks, which will save alot of money for studios.

I want a PS3. I've always been a fan of the Playstation series. I got a PSP for Christmas and couldn't be happier. I agree that the game library for the PS3 has been so so but some awesome games are coming out. 2008 should be a big year for the PS3.

I love my PS3, it is a truly awesome system. I traded in my Xbox 360 to get one.

I think New Line has followed Warner's lead an is now exclusively blue-ray too. That would seal the deal for me. I swear New Line seems to be responsible for a disproportionate amount of my favourite movies.

Blu-ray, network connectivity, new titles. I'm getting one if only for the blu-ray.

I can't really be convinced. I wouldn't buy a PS3 simply because I don't game, blu-ray is too expensive when I have an extensive library of standard DVDs available at my favorite torrent site, and I would have to spend a small fortune to get my home theatre upgraded to make it really worthwhile.

Heck...I just sold my PS2 for $100 to my little bro with the few games that I had.

Yeah. No games, and I'm not into RPGs where dudes look like chicks. Also MGS games are a one playthrough dealy, so no dice there either.

Well, if you need to be convinced, it means that it's not the system for you :)

anyways, almost all the good AAA titles aren't exclusives anymore and are on the 360.

I hate what consoles have come to. You can't debate which one is better without also debating which one has the better proprietary format.

Fuck consoles. I <3 my PC.

I just found out you CAN use a 360 controller in windows. Microsoft sells a kit for about 20 bucks with a USB reciever and drivers. I dunno if it works on all games, or just certain "games for windows" (I know gears of war, and halo 2 support it)

I can't stand PC gaming anymore. Every other game that comes out recommends the next greatest card from Nvidia. Not to mention, the constant challenges of drivers/settings/bugs/excessive patches, i'll stick to a console.

If you roll in cash, you can't beat PC gaming for most genres.

If you don't, console gaming has plenty of nice alternatives.

I just couldn't keep up anymore. My FX-57 and dual 6800 SLIs can't even run Vista at it's max. I bought a PS3 and a Wii. My computer is for email and Pr0n until I win the lottery.

    1. Plays games
    2. Plays Blu-ray discs
    3. Upconverts PS2 games and DVDs
    4. Streams media from your PC (including DivX videos)
    5. Runs Linux
    6. Internal HDD is easy to upgrade
    7. Has a card reader
    8. Integrates nicely w/ the PSP

If I had $500, I'd buy it. I'd be happy with just a PS3 running YDL, an Eee PC, and an iPhone. That would simplify things quite a bit for me.
