Looks like I'm going again this year... :D Bought tickets at the last minute. This time I'll be doing it on the cheap, making a tent-shade shelter out our VW van, lovingly called the Bang Bus. Anyone here going?

God damn, I wish I was going. Next year, I swear next year will be the year I finally go! Do you have a group to camp with?

One of my uncles started riding his bike from Seattle to Burning Man just yesterday I think.

What exactly is it? A nudist/druggie art festival for a week?

David, try Google, especially pics. It's too much info to describe in a few posts even here. My take was that it was a week-long camping trip, in a town formed temporarily by about 50,000 people. Tons of great music and live performances/outdoor fire shows and crazy stuff like that and yes 1000s of art installations.

I don't have a camp to join, I could probably fish one up from my friends but I just decided to go at the last minute (just like last year) so it's a lot of hectic planning. I am probably too late for a lot of camps. :( Maybe I'll meet some friends and find a camp for next time.

That's cool he's riding. Has he gone before?

You should! It's a really crazy/cool place worth seeing. You'll never see anything like it.

Most people spend $1000+ going, and come from all over the world. So if you can check it out without spending a lot of money it's a pretty rare opportunity.

Yah, he's been at least once before. It's funny, after he got divorced, he has totally become the cool uncle, it's great to see how much happier and more interesting he is now.

Yep I have heard some good stuff about EDC. Bad stuff too though (like putting the venues really far apart in walking distance).

If you go to Burning Man can you go for less than a week? If you go let me know and we can meet up.

I don't care for crowds, but that sounds like something I'd put on my bucket list.

    yeah! Brings back memories :)

We're working on a basic shade structure/hut and I plan to expand it next year. I think if you DIY and make it cheap you can just continue to build and make it more comfortable over the years.

Looks like a blast. It would be fun to overfly at ~ 1000 ft. but it's prolly a no-no.

A couple videos I found.. this is what the camping/streets look like, center camp, and the man etc. during the day:

To give you an idea of how it looks out there at night (but really no pics can capture it at night IMO, it's just too amazingly crazy :p))

These are the "art cars", I imagine there were over 1000 of them, many as big as a yacht or 18-wheeler. Some had crazy themes, many had fire shooting out of them!

Riding around the desert one day we heard this mystical music, it was pretty epic:

There was tons and tons of stuff like this. So many smart people at Burning Man building things... Unfortunately I only brought my camera out one day and didn't shoot any night photos :(

EDIT for some reason these videos can't embed. :( Add me as a friend on FB if you want to see them.
