Fantastic! As long as alcohol continues to reduce inhibitions, and people remain stupid; I'm set for LIFE!
yet another true set of words from a member of T3D! Matter of fact, a bad economy increases booze sales reguardless of price. http://cbs5.com/consumer/alcohol.sales.economy.2.883032.html
There are a few things I need/want to buy like new floors for my house, landscape the yard, fix my truck, and a new phone (eventually, that's not really a need obviously). But I'm having a hard time spending the money on it. You never do know what could happen. Right now, I'm just trying to save at least 6 months worth of living expenses. I'll have the rest of that in a couple of months. Then I'll see how it is and maybe start fixing up the house/truck. Truth be told, other than those couple of things, I don't need to buy anything anyways. I'll probably save a year of living expenses after that and then just throw all my extra income to paying off my house. Hopefully nothing bad happens with the job I have.
We are doing a lot better at work, but I am still hurting from the past year. Austin especially, and Texas to a slightly lesser degree are doing great. I know that isn't the norm though. Hopefully this is kind of a "reset" for everyone and they will start to get shit in order. I am about ready to shoot a college grad though, everyone bitching about not getting $60k right out of school. Its not unfair, its called life, suck it up yeah, and they're all moving here. Texas is going to be the next big clusterfuck. Between our backasswards school board and all the people moving here, the state is screwed. I can't wait to pay $300k for a 2000sq ft house
For sure. Stupid people made my house dirt cheap and because of them I'ma make a fuckton of cash in the future.
We're no more ****ed than usual. This isn't as bad as things got during the Great Depression, and we somehow lived through that, and even got stronger. The only difference is this new age of the "echo chamber" where people bounce rumors back and forth among those who have the same viewpoint as themselves, so that all rumors seem to be clothed in an impervious armor of "truthiness" and just keep right on going, so that people STILL think that Al Gore actually said he invented the internet, which he never actually did. A nice NPR show on "truth" and how our brains are wired to jump to conclusions, and how we dismiss all facts to the contrary of our own opinions, to prevent "cognitive dissonance"... Edit: It appears however, that we all are indeed running out of time!
Tell that to the million that lost jobs and exhausted 99 weeks of unemployment benefits and whos kids wonder why they can't have "neat" cloths like others in their school. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/24/long-term-unemployment-no_n_587119.html The way I see it, is the top tier never suffered and allowed some jobs to be spared to forgo a massive depression. After all there is that little thing called rebellion and revolution to deal with. you and I both know, there are people with masters and doctorates whos sole job is to estimate just where the breaking point is. Wall street caused this mess and have returned to the black bottom lines in a large degree. Those profits have not seemed to trickle down at all. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38143941/ns/business-stocks_and_economy/ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38239794/ns/business-retail/ Rumors?
Sure! "Millions who have lost your jobs! It's STILL not as bad as it was in the Great Depression! They pulled through in the end, and so will you! Don't lose hope!" Done! Edit: I feel like Tom Hanks in Dragnet, telling the kids that the lion's mane will grow back!
Although, a depression would have probably led to some real change. Oh wait, not much changed after the great depression. Then as now, biz is still conducted the same way. financial reform? Bah! The financial industry is writing the reforms as we speak. The government's concept of "reform" equates to nothing more than damage control.
The financial industry is not the only one that has taken over our government. The telcos, the insurance companies, big pharma, entertainment, and, of course, the oil cos all own us.
Things haven't been all that bad for me. I have a new room mate that has really helped to ease me financially, and I have had the best time of my life with a new girlfriend (been with her for just over a month now). Life is becoming very stress free aside from work. But, I would say that society as a whole is going down the shitter. First off, I had an odd accident about a week ago. My boat died about 50 feet from the dock when pulling in (after being out all day). We paddled towards the dock, and the wind picked up. So, I blew backwards towards the center of the bay. I dropped anchor, and still drifted. Called 911, since I was moving towards a Naval installation (not allowed to say which one). Long story short, spent 2 hours on the phone with 911 trying to get a boat out to me to pull be back to dock, when I was only 100 yards away from it... Then, once the boat got there, they claimed they couldn't tow me away from the rocks I was smashing into due to them not having permission to. I finally convinced them to tow me, after 30 minutes of bashing into the rocks. The response was horrible, and nobody cared. They just shrugged their shoulders when I asked what would happen if one of us were in a medical emergency, or if the boat was sinking. They couldn't care any less. But, we were all OK, and nothing got seriously hurt. Got a few nicks and dings on the hull of my boat from the rocks I bumped into on the far shore. I initially informed the news agency here, and they were very interested and wanted a full story. Then I got shut down by my command, since it did involve landing on the shore of a base without any security on site. They didn't even know I was there. Pretty scary..... aranoid: ~Will Courtier~
Jurisdiction is a pain. Civvies not allowed to do anything on Navy property. The security situation had to be embarrassing though!
dude, the people who went thru were definately different. You always hear about so-so hoarded and saved all her money, lived simply, etc., then died with 1mil in the bank. Its all cyclical. I think a lot of the younger people who are getting their asses whooped right now are going to live differently than most did during the 90s and 00s
True. The sad part is, and was, that the carelessness that affected millions then and now, has not changed. That being said, we are doomed to repeat the proccess until the responsible parties are made to be accountable for the wages of their greed.
You tell me. Read the news, see if there's a difference after 5 quarters. And yes, this place has lost a lot of people.
Dan told me I was missed so I made a (temporary) return. Basically I got sick of the stupid argumentative shit and wanker kids not wanting to work an honest day in their lives. If I want to hear that, I can just listen with all my liberal hippy vegan friends every saturday =) As to the follow up on this, I don't think we're fucked. Shit is moving in the right direction, this has been a nice reality check for everyone. We're never going to go back to the glory days of '07, but long term I think shit has been saved And for the record, at the end of last year I paid $200k and got a house in literally downtown Austin. I am going to sit on this shit for 5-10 years and sell it to a californian for 400k =D
