I keep seeing all this gloom and doom online. My Dad although working has been really negative. I try to be a bit optimistic especially since I'm full time now but are we going to be hitting the fan soon?
If you believe everything the right wingers and religeous nuts are saying then yes we are fucked! Posted via Mobile Device
avoid news and online propaganda and the world is a better place. less stress on your mind you'd be amazed at how much stress adds up on a person that watches the news and gets worried over all the "doom and gloom" news. that alone could potentially knock off about 3 years of a persons lifespan. ignore everything and keep wearing your rose colored glasses.
We're 12 trillion dollars in debt and the budget deficit is in the hundreds of billions. We have no manufacturing to speak of (aside from defense), our technology lead is shrinking rapidly and our children are too uneducated to widen it. Many of our citizens are entitled, fat, stupid and spoiled. I think yes.
"It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine." Just go about your daily life and try to do what's best for yourself and your family (as long as that doesn't mean fucking people over). You'll be OK.
I see you're a glass half-full kinda guy! While I don't think the recession is really over and we have at least another year and a half of problems, I don't see an all out collapse of our nation. So no, shit isn't going to hit the fan, at least not bad enough that we as a nation cannot recover.
if you know a trade, or have skills that people would need or want, then you are never fucked!!!! this is why i always try to learn simple tasks like simple engine/auto repair, or easy 'mr. fix it' type things, you would be surprised how many people will pay you cash for simple tasks if the all local muffler shop or oil change places closed... i guess what i am saying is if you know how to survive with what you know you are never fucked
This. Things are bad, and we need to make some massive corrections. Starting with getting the federal budget under control. But we're not permanently fucked unless we stubbornly hold our present course.
i'm sorry but those of you that use the "rose colored glasses" bs are the reason we are in this mess. because we ignore what is REALLY going on is why we are taken advantage of. Things wouldn't be this bad at all if we were actually all involved in what is going on in this country. with that said, I agree you can't ALWAYS be doom and gloom because it will mess you up. But I at least think you should be fully aware of what is going on and what could happen so you are prepared. And you should be doing everything in your power to better the situation. i don't necessarily have the answer to better the situation though. I think at this point, there isn't much we can do. I think we have been taken too advantage of and divided/blinded. I won't go into any details as I'd probably be called a "conspiracy theorist" but I'll be surprised if things get better.
There really isn't much we can do. We could vote everybody out tomorrow, and they'd just get replaced with a new crop of corrupt politicians. The few guys in there who actually care and have good ideas can't do much. bbsmitz, thanks for saying what many of us are thinking. Let's wait for you-know-who to come in here and tell us how much we hate America. Anyway, what's the point of worrying and stressing? Does that get shit solved? Like I said, concentrate on the one thing you kinda, sorta have power over: your own life. It's not like we're the only ones in trouble. Pick a country, any country, in the Middle East. Go read an Icelandic or a Venezuelan newspaper. Heard about Dubai lately?
Well, the answer to this problem is actually built right into the Constitution. We need to return as much power to the states as possible, as the founders of our nation intended. The larger any structure becomes the more difficult it is to control, particular the corruption and waste.
The culture of abundance is also a problem, IMHO. People are avid of shortcut and easy solutions, and they feel entitled to them. As long as the poeople only ask for comfort in a democracy, the power in place will continue to disseminate ressources stupidly.
Necessity is the mother of all inventions. If things were to get as bad as some of you are saying it is, the system will correct itself (government, economic, you name it) there maybe a period of time when things get bad but in the grand scheme of things it's still not as bad as some people in some countries already have it. If the power and water system were to stop working in the US then it's bad. Posted via Mobile Device
I've been saying this shit for years and am met with the maximum amount of resistance. We are indeed fucked and we'll soon be fucter. Comfort is an addiction. The guv uses our addiction to "comfort" just as ` drug dealer lords it over the junky. Nobody wants to hear the truth, even if they know what the truth is, they still would rather not hear it......that's called denial. This country is really good at denial, it's basically the only tangible thing we produce. And we produce a lot of it. So long as it's more important to remain ignorant to support ther lies we are living, we're really screwed and there's no hope. By "lies", I'm refering to a life of debt, dishonesty and corruption. For instance, everyone admits that congress is one totally corrupt institution, yet we lie to ourselves and say we can't do anything to change it. People will continue to buy homes they can't afford and nothing will have been learned from the last of many "bubbles bursting". The first trick used to sell items, are scams, not the quality and/or service this country was known for. But what the hell do I know, I'm just a conspiracy theorist that sees a dark hand in everything. Anyone stop to think that the reason a dark hand is seen so often, is that the scam's so blatant now that the "dark hand" isn't even hidden any longer? People will look strait at it, and convince themselves that it isn't there. That's a pretty high price to pay for ignorant bliss.
So it's been like 6 months since this posting... it feels the same as before IMO. My CEO sent out an email to the company saying that he believes the next 3 years will be rough and that we are doing a great job staying afloat because we are competitive. But if the economy tanks really bad, everyone is fucked. I want to start living a little more (buy a new car, my Neon isn't cutting it anymore, move out etc..) but I am reluctant to go into debt. How do you guys feel?
I feel great too. I've weaned myself of everything connected to economy. It took a little sacrifice but isn't that hard to do once you see how much economic society is just like a drug dealing douchbag. if you must.......I would definately watch out for going into debt until after any regulation takes effect. those now on that hook are going to get ass raped just prior to regulations kicking in. If you haven't noticed, we are currently being primed for higher fuel prices. The ethanol that petrol is cut with, is poised to suffer the highest corn shortage in history when you concider corn production capacity compared to demand. That's right, that corn on the cob costs two times what it did last year (and all other corn foodstuffs for that matter) because you're burning it in your car. http://www.glgroup.com/News/Re-The-World-should-brace-for-Corn--shortages-on-the-market-39201.html
