OK, so the chrome plating plant that I was working for basically used me to get them through a major audit (which I did without any hits on our department at all), and fired me right afterwards. I had enough money set aside to live for a few months, so I casually looked for a job.

I got hired on at one of the most productive car dealership networks in the state of Virginia (Southern Auto Group). I got hired on as a new and used car salesman, selling GMC's and Kias as well as any used car owned by our entire network. This place offers the highest commissions of any other dealership in the state, and we move more cars than any other as well. Just got my state Salesman license and have began working deals. I'm earning 30% of the profit on all vehicles I sell, and will basically get paid for just talking to people. Going to be a crazy change, but it will be so much easier on my body than physical labor. I just officially got my salesman's license yesterday, and have already began working a few sales that are pretty likely to close. The average commission at our dealership for each vehicle is between $750 and $1500, so the money will be incredibly good. I'm so freaking excited. I really enjoy going to work every day at this job. It interests me, and I am great at talking to people.

    Life is great!!!!

Doing new things is what keeps life interesting.
Glad to hear it's a matter of one door closing and another door opening.

BUILD BUILD BUILD your clientele. You can use that to go from dealership to dealership and command your commission if you do well.

I thought about selling instead of fixing a few times.

Then I remembered how I hate "people" especially people who already think you are out to screw them. So I stick to fixing cars and let my service writer deal with the "people" bullshit. :)

    Amen brother!
The worst part of any job I do is dealing with the human element.
This is followed closely by sourcing and logistics made difficult by the human element.
Seriously, I could not do retail or sales. Give me a hammer or wrench any day.

It turned out great! Hit my quota on my first full month, which is almost unheard of. And, I managed to do it in the worst month of the year!

I've bought slacks and light jackets at Kohl's. And some New Balance sneaks. And khaki socks, the kind that actually have some sock in 'em. Sock-makers always think khaki socks should be these sheer fuckers for hawt weather, which is utter bullshit. [end of rant] o_O

The color-- just light brown, as you'd wear with a pair of khaki trousers.
