That is par for the course. I think Apple does it on purpose. Every incremental update has made every iDevice I own a little slower and little laggier. Things have NEVER gotten better with an update for me.

How else would you be forced to buy a new product??

Its the same with computer operating systems if you think about it. With every hotfix and service pack the minimum system requirements for Windows goes up a little.

Windows 7 ran great on computers that Vista ran shitty on. The same is true with Windows 8. I installed it on an old Dell laptop and it works great.

For me, it's all about staying fresh. My Instinct worked good compared to the Razr I had before it. But even my Instinct was SUPER limited with what I wanted to do. Then my carrier (Sasktel) got the 3G network in place, and got the Galaxy S. Been happy ever since, especially with all the mods you can do with it to make the phone that much better.

When my two years comes around with my carrier next year (I'm on a three year term right now), I can start looking around and upgrade my phone if needed. But for now, this phone with it's CPU power and everything, does what I want a phone to do!

If you keep your phones for over two years then yes you will be dissappointed when new OS's come out for any phone. If you want to keep your phone fresh then buy a new phone every two years. Apple has a good release schedule because you can skip every other generation of phone they come out with and still have a good product and then upgrade on the next go around to get something that is/feels current.

God damn Apple. If I were a pre-4s owner and got a message like that I would buy a Droid and never look back.

Does it surprise anybody that companies only support their products for a limited amount of time in this culture of consumerism that forces us to always upgrade to the latest and greatest?

Shit! I'm starting to sound like you-know-who....

Of course they need to find a way to sell no products, so old one become obsolete. But I just think that a 500$+ phone a year is a little abusive. Maybe it's just me..

    Thanks for the replies guys

    Just got my 4S.

I have the Otter case which is a bit bulky, and I've barely used the camera but it's a big improvement over the 3GS one I had. Also it's a lot faster it seems.

The Siri stuff is really impressive to be honest, I didn't expect a lot but was shocked at how well it works. It's faster than typing and I just hold the button to bring it up so it'll replace a lot of my previous hunting/clicking action. Here's a video showing some of its features:

I really dig how I can just say "What's the weather like in San Francisco this weekend" and it reads the forecast out loud, or "Text Alex You are a cock sucker" and it actually works.

James K downloaded the competition on his Android, it was really nothing close to the same thing.

Man, that Windows 7 stuff is pathetic!

I've been really enjoying Siri. Texting, changing appointments, checking my e-mails, etc is so much safer while driving/biking! Though I do have some issues with it understanding me, it's only when I'm using my car's shitty bluetooth microphone. If I use the Apple headset/onphone microphone, it's perfectly fine.

What was the competition? Iris? The only real competition is SpeakToIt and it rocks! Plus, you can make your "assistant" look pretty hot!

I tried Skyvi and Vlingo and they were huge pieces of shit. I'll give SpeakToit a shot and report back.

Pressing one button always/only is the main reason Siri's good. The ones on the Android do work, but that one thing is missing. Maybe you could hack it to work like that. But it's pretty good.

Just an update to this thread - Not sure what Apple is doing but Siri has had major issues lately for me. Anyone else have a 4S and notice this? It times out and gives "I'm sorry but I can't take that request" etc. almost constantly.

Some people said online you can reset some things and fix it. I'll try that, but it seems like the server has been acting up for a few weeks.

Edit - Tried this and it works again for now. I still love my phone :)
