You guys been following the news lately on AMD's new line of cards? Apparently this thing is the card to get if your budget is $400.

The only negatives are heat/power usage/noise at full load. I might be getting it and it may or may not mean the death of my 500 watt power supply :)

being perpetually broke, i've been watching the lower end versions of it.... $100 today buys a lot more video card than it did 5 years ago.

I upgraded from a GTX 570 that had 1.25 GB of mem to a 7950 that has 3GB, for about $200. These R series chips aren't anything too new. I don't know if I'd call them rebranded, but I think the basic chips and architecture were the same. This was right as the R series were coming for sale on Newegg. My recollection is that the comparable nVidia card to the 7950 is the GTX 660, which was slightly more expensive and didn't do quite as well in the Anandtech side-by-side doohickey thingamabob.

(Psssst: The 570 is getting lonely if anyone wants to make an offer)

No, anything under the R9 290x and R9 290 are rebranded old chips (280, 270, etc). The R9 290 and R9 290X are new architecture GPU's by AMD.

I already made up my mind I think, I am just waiting for the non reference designed cards to come out and I will get a R9 290.

I have an ati 4870 and I don't game much but when I do its at 1920x1200. I have 3x 1920x1200 screens and I want to try eyefinity on my setup so that would be a res of 5,760x1200. I can do that with the R9 290 depending on how high I set the graphics settings.

Nothing that is currently out is what I want. I am waiting for the non-reference heatsink designs to come out.

I see 4 reference r9 290's available on newegg right now but yeah these are selling fast for sure.

I thought bitcoin miners had all switched to ASICs as more cost-effective mining equipment? I'd be more interested in a new Nvidia card right now because of G-Sync. I see this idea taking off. Eventually manufacturers will come up with SOME standard or other to allow for flexible framerates, since hard-coded refresh rates are a remnant from the old days of CRT monitors...

Holy shit. I see the 3GB 7950 I bought for $209 with a $20 rebate and three free games (which for me ended up being DIRT-3, Sleeping Dogs, and Deus Ex Machina: Human Revolution) is now going for $449.

And with all that, I'm having trouble with artifacting in Flightsim X with Real Environment Extreme (REX). Here's a vid from when I tried it with Morphological Filtering enabled in AA: https://www.dropbox.com/s/799m1v2973e4vgr/FSXbad.mp4

(Excuse the audio. I think Colbert or Always Sunny was on the TV across the room when I recorded this)

I finally got my hands on an Asus R9 290 OC card with a custom cooler (DirectCU or someshit). Took a 1 month wait from Amazon but I paid MSRP @ $440. I wont get a chance to install it until later this week. My dick is getting wet at the idea of finally being able to play games across all 3 of my screens.
