Seagate Barracuda 1TB Drives Biting The Dust - Tom's Hardware thought i'd post this, if any of you have one might want to backup your data
i have the 1.5 tb as well Seagate 1.5TB Drives Randomly Freezing - Tom's Hardware i've never had a single problem with seagate drive though
Seagate has always seemed to be a solid performer in both my Mac's and PC's. This is out of character.
Yeah, I had SD17 and updated it as soon as I received my drive to SD1A. You have to be careful though, you DO NOT want to update the firmware if you have data on it, make sure to back it up first and also not to have any other hard drive plugged in besides the 1.5tb drive. You also want to make sure you use the right firmware, there's the SD one and another one that starts with CC, both have updated versions available since they both have the problem.
I'm not surprised considering the amount of failed drives I've heard about. Guess if I do end up getting a TB drive I'll check out other manufacturers. Though I might just wait for 2 or 3 TB drives.
Just great, I've got TWO brand new Seagate 1TB external drives on my desk right now. Have to read the article, are the externals affected? EDIT: Nope, my drives aren't affected. Seagate Technology - Barracuda 7200.11 SATA models with firmware SD04 or SD14
