30-40% of Seagate 1TB drives failing

    Seagate has always seemed to be a solid performer in both my Mac's and PC's. This is out of character.

    Yeah, I had SD17 and updated it as soon as I received my drive to SD1A. You have to be careful though, you DO NOT want to update the firmware if you have data on it, make sure to back it up first and also not to have any other hard drive plugged in besides the 1.5tb drive. You also want to make sure you use the right firmware, there's the SD one and another one that starts with CC, both have updated versions available since they both have the problem.

    I'm not surprised considering the amount of failed drives I've heard about. Guess if I do end up getting a TB drive I'll check out other manufacturers. Though I might just wait for 2 or 3 TB drives.
